1200 meters of mostly sidestroke (both sides!). It took me over half an hour. When I regained consciousness, there were two gorgeous young women hitting my head with wet towels. Lifeguard No. 1: We're not going to do CPR, if that's what you're thinking. (Whack!) Lifeguard No. 2: Yeah, so you'd better snap out of it. (Whack!) Me: Hey, that's not how they did it on Baywatch! (Whack!)

You're still a beginner ? Hmmm !!! :-P ...anyway, sorry to digress slightly from the thread, but would have thought most pools these days have designated swim lanes ...like slow, med, fast or even specific swim sessions for various levels or strokes.

Well, since my child was in the dog house and sentenced to riding the bus for a week, I never made it to the school's nat for a swim last week (and sorely missed it), so I can't chime in here. However, I did spend each day doing some amount of Pilates. I'm told this is a very good supplement to swimming, and with all the focus on strengthening the "power house", i.e., torso muscles, I can understand how that is so. Does anyone else do Pilates, and if so, have you noticed a difference in your speed, endurance or technique? Anyhow, I figure that with the snow shovelling and Pilates of last week, I'm off the hook (exercise-wise) for not swimming, although neither is anywhere near as enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to getting back in the water tomorrow! Cheers!
