I am planning on going for a goal of 239,000 yards for the month of February 2011. Does anyone have some good training tips for working up to this amount over the next 5 months. I have a strong base and swim at least 5 days a week. I train alone so I just don't know what types of workouts would help me. Any advice anyone can give would be great!!!
Thanks!!
I don't have a plan for you but, good grief, that is a ton of yardage. That's 340 laps a day. Can you do it in March where you get three extra days? Send a PM to Chaos, he might be able to provide you some tips as he is the distance specialist, to put it mildly.
Tom (tjrpatt) on the blogging section does roughly 10k per day for at least 5 or 6 days a week. In the winter he regularly does double workouts though. For masters with kids, that could be too much time in the pool.
Hats off to anyone who aspires to rack up that kind of yardage. That's what most college athletes log in.
Is that laps or lengths? (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
When people swim a 500, they ask for volunteers to help them with the plastic "lap" counters. Not length counters. :)
Swimshark - you got it! February Fitness Challenge.
swimbake - I will definitely shoot you an email!! Thanks for the offer.
Thanks to everyone else for the responses!
Danielle, enjoy it. I used to be a Barracuda :)
I'm curious though, why 239,000? Why not 240,000 or some other number?
OMG! 1,650 fly. That is intense. Props to this man!!! :applaud:
swimshark - The record for my age group is 238,500 so I set my goal for 239,000. I've never set a goal like this for myself so it's going to be intense but if I put my mind to it I can do it!!!! I already have a friend who is going to come to my weekend workouts and keep me motivated especially since I do ALL my training by myself.
Danielle, wow thats a big task my name is Dennis Baker maybe I could help you bakeswim@yahoo.com give me a shout. Are you a open water swimmer?:)
This is totally unfair. This person posts once and gets an offer from Baker. This is an offer no one should ignore!

Well, the poster is from Portland, Dennis' home :)
I assume you are doing this for February Fitness Challenge, right? You can contact the hosts, Tualatin Hills Barracudas and they have sets that are based on your goal. I know a lot of people who participate in the FFC do 200,000+ yards in February. Good luck.

Unless you don't want to have a set of 10 X 200 Fly thrown in that mix of thousands of yards!!
(you know DB will stick that in somehow)
