OK I feel great after my swim..my body is ready to rest my eye are tired I smell of "pool" etc...y'know the normal after swim. ;) I seem to get very restless in the night and keep waking...event though i am nicely exhausted. Anyone else get this or curious to know why it's happening--if it's related to swimming. Myguess is not hydrating enough...
  • Richjb: Are you practicing at night? When I practice at night (7:30-9:00), I am usually up much later. My body is tired, but my brain is not. I have read that it is not ideal to exercise late at night because it can prompt a delayed or less restful sleep. The ideal time to exercise, from a physiological viewpoint, is apparently the afternoon. This is my favorite time. Of course, it doesn't always suit the schedule.
  • YES! I have had that many times. I think when you have a great workout, your nervous system goes into "hyper-drive" from all the feel good endorphins. You may want to take the next day off or at least back off the intensity the next day if you don't sleep well.
  • I normally play some video games, or watch after I get home and hit the hay around 11pm. I hope the time of day it is not the reason, but I think mybody will adapt to that. I'm only a month into serious swimming. Now, I would not be complaining about going to sleep at 11:00 pm. I wish I could do that! I'm usually up to 12:30. Everyone is busy at 2:00. That is why I loved my former lunchtime masters group... I wish there were more of those. I have also read that playing video games or being on the computer an hour before bedtime can overstimualte your brain and keep you up. I bet you got that new xbox last Christmas, didn't you?

That's interesting. I'm doing a mile of breststroke 3 x a week. Perhaps, i'll try hydrating and some supplements. Living in CT this time of year I crosstrain with lawn raking and leave bagging...IRONMAN!! lol

You come and do my job for me and I'll swim at 2 pm...I'll treat you to lunch! hehehe I keep my pay though ;) Yes I go around 7-8, but I normally play some video games, or watch after I get home and hit the hay around 11pm. Leslie you are so right. On the nights when I am on the computer or playing video games before bed I have the hardest time falling asleep at a normal time. I just feel so restless, even if I'm tired. I wish I could swim with our lunchtime masters. But that would mean I'm retiring from work at age 24 and that's most likely not going to happen.

Well sometimes I get stuck into video games or TV and stay up later. No XBOX--I play an online game...which is quite addicting...I am pleased that swimming is helping me reduce "sit on butt" time. It could be the gaming but i've been doing that for a while and I don't have too much diffculty sleeping until now with the swimming. My bod is probably in shock.
