Ever tried swimming a 25 yard or 50 yard sprint breaststroke. I don't l know if you have a pace clock for that. I bet you are a natural in ***. But you were right you were doing too much of it at one time.

To day I went to do my usal swim. But when I got Into the water I , felt it was real warm. Approx. 88 degrees. I can tell you ,after 20 laps. Iwas sweating and having a diffcult time doing a mile. Iwas real tired. Did get the mile. But totally tired. So I rested and did 10 X 50. With much rest in between. Has that happened to any one.

I actually experienced the opposite today. I have only been swimming for a little over a year and always at the same Y. I had no idea what temperature the water was, but it always seemed fine. Today, I got to the Y and there was a sign up that said they were having problems with the pool heating system and apologized that the temperature was only 81.5 degrees. I asked what it normally is and they said 86! What a difference. I had so much more energy. (Although it was a shock getting in! Maybe I can sabotage the heating system for my future workouts .....

My Y is usually way too warm, but lately we've been having the opposite problem due to heater difficulties. Today was 78, and it felt great. However, last Friday the water was 76 and with the air being in the 40s I couldn't face early morning practice but went to the workout room instead. Today, however, 78 in the water with the sun out was wonderful.

Being in the north, air temperature doesn't come into play (controlled atmosphere).:) On the other hand, I have yet to experience an outdoor workout.:(
  • YES Dominick! I recently had to swim in a community pool that is kept very warm and I was exhausted during and after my workout. Despite drinking water before and during my workout, I was so dehydrated afterwards that I drank about a gallon of water and still felt thirsty! I hope I will never have to swim there again. It was very hard to sprint or swim any long distances without overheating!
