I am looking for a suggestions on nutritional suppliments after my workouts. High carbo, High protein? I swim in the morning 3 days/wk, weights 2 days/wk. I eat a whole grain cereal before my workout. Does anyone suggest one of those protein or cabo drinks that are highly advertised, I never trust those adds. I was thinking some sort of protein supplement, but I don't need to bulk up my muscles, as I am a swimmer not a muscle head. I just want some sort of muscle recovery supplement. I go straight to work after my workouts, so I need something "on the go".
Any suggestions?

I'm with Leonard - Endurox is the best sports recovery drink!!
Prior to a hard workout (swimming or biking or other combo) or meet I make a MetRx Metamyosyn Protein shake with fruit & whole milk. It gives me enough energy to make it through with just some light snacks. I drink lots of water!
Has the Accelerade taste improved at all? When I drank it a few years back I almost threw up, especially when it was not very cold. I drink Gatorade Endurance Formula now, diluted pretty heavily.
I've had the blue and the orange types. The blue was very good in my opinion, orange took some getting to use to...it was definately better refrigerated.
I'd like to hear a nutritionists or dietitians independent opinion on this subject. Do you even digest proteins consumed before working out, especially since exercise inhibits digestion, right?
I like to take 6 or 7 dried apricot halves and a handfull of almonds or unsalted cashews in a small container for an after swim snack (weekend long swim only - don't need one for a 35 min. workday swim). I figure the nuts take care of the protein and mineral replenishment, and the apricots take care of the carbohydrates. Never had any problem digesting this, and it's small and portable. If I were allergic to nuts, a piece of low fat cheese or meat would probably do.
What ever happend to good eating and are the nutrician drinks necessary.
If you eat properly and drink water, what do you really require. I think it is all in the mind.
One of the vitamin companys in the old days said just in case you don't get enough.
It is a money making reason we take these things. Water and plain old suger is as good as it gets. White sugar gets in the system witin 3 mila seconds. Why take power drinks?
What do they give diabetics a little spoon of sugar and thats it.
Water and plain old suger is as good as it gets.
Why is ingesting sugar good anyway. I've always heard simple sugar is absorbed too fast. Is this good just before a race or during a long distance race?

White sugar gets to the blood fast so does brown sugar.
We used to mix Coca Cola syrup with water, also works fast and gives you caffeine. Other great uses for Coca Cola members.tripod.com/.../cola.html
Honey, corn syrup, maple syrup give you energy fast.

I cannot eat or drink enything prior to a workout. If I do, my acid reflux kicks in. Any suggestions? Anyone have issues like this?
I sometimes have this problem when swimming at night, never in the morning. (Unless my beloved gets one of his "English cuisine" fits and insists on making a hearty breakfast). Avoiding anything acidic or fatty helps, as does keeping the quantity way down.
Well I just went through my Muscle Milk and bought some Accelerade and Endurox. I tried the endurox today as I am a bit sick and figured it won't hurt, could be conicidence but I feel better for it!
If I am ok tomorrow I'll try the Accerlade and go swim!
