I am looking for a suggestions on nutritional suppliments after my workouts. High carbo, High protein? I swim in the morning 3 days/wk, weights 2 days/wk. I eat a whole grain cereal before my workout. Does anyone suggest one of those protein or cabo drinks that are highly advertised, I never trust those adds. I was thinking some sort of protein supplement, but I don't need to bulk up my muscles, as I am a swimmer not a muscle head. I just want some sort of muscle recovery supplement. I go straight to work after my workouts, so I need something "on the go".
Any suggestions?
I agree with Leonard, that Endurox is a great on the go after exercise drink. In addition to GNC, the maker of Endurox and ACCELERADE , PacificHealth Laboratories, has a web site http://www.accelerade.com/ with a list of their on-line and in-store retail outlets.
I have been eating a granola bar 1/2 hour before practice and drinking approx. 4 oz. of Gatorade every 20 minutes during practice. I buy the Gatorade powder so it is pretty cheap to use. This program has really helped my energy level during practice. (and theoretically provides energy to the body without breaking down muscle mass)
I follow the same routine on weight lifting days.
Apparently, Chocolate Milk is good. I'm not sure what the chocolate is for. Maybe just regular milk is better.

I agree Accelerade is a miracle drink. I mean maybe I just got faster...but I drank accelerade before my 500 and dropped 10seconds from two weeks earlier...I just felt so much better throughout the race. I have had a hard time finding it since then though...I'm glad I stumbled onto this post I must have missed it...now I can look up where to find it:-) thanks for the resource.
I don't care if its all in the mind or just a fad or whatever...I just bought me 7 bottles of accelerade and will probably be back to buy more to finish up the season with.
I am hypoglycemic and in my experience and spoonful of sugar only does so much...it's better to be fueling the body throughout a meet with good foods and electrolyte drinks instead of being force fed sugar tablets when your passed out on the pool deck.
and maybe it is all in my head, but, I like thinking that what im eating/ drinking on the deck during a meet is gonna help me swim my best...so even if its all mental its still helping...seeing how swimming is 90%mental.

Has the Accelerade taste improved at all? When I drank it a few years back I almost threw up, especially when it was not very cold. I drink Gatorade Endurance Formula now, diluted pretty heavily.

buy the powder...they have it online now in a lot of the flavors...though I don't think they have the rain flavors yet which are my favorite.
