Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
  • I drank coffee all the time as a kid and it didn't seem to help me that much in the pool!
  • Hate to break it to all you double shot folks, but a shot of espresso has less caffeine than a cup of coffee, according to a coffee show I watched. However, it doesn't slosh around so much as a big 24 oz cup of coffee so that is a benefit. Jolt makes caffeine gum that if you chew 4 sticks will gig you up pretty good. Top it off with 2X caffeine gel/goo, a sudaphed and an excedrin and you will be ready to go, or you will stroke out. I feel like a really unsophisticated drug user now.

"All 3 of my children (14,12,8) swim competitively now. I have taught them that supplements and drugs beyond mere vitamins and protein powder are flat out cheating. I am confident they will not act foolishly in their future swimming career. I can not say that about a growing percentage of young swimmers who begin with lessor items as Creatine in highschool and expand from there in college and beyond." Dear Mr Goodsmith, I find it interesting reading your above quote. I over heard you telling your 14 year old at a meet 12 days ago, "take two sips of coffee before your race." I know that is not cheating, but isn't baby steps toward other enhancing drugs? I recall the reply of your child, "I don't want to. I want to do it on my own." It is remarkable your children can decifer your 'good' and 'evil' advice. Comparing other sports to swimming such as cycling and baseball is ridiculous. One of the may reasons for doping in the tour de france or alleged Barry Bonds doping is the money. There is a lot of money thrown at those athletes to win and break records. What type of compensation does a swimmer get for winning Nationals? Swimmingly yours, Evan 2 SIPS? Ya gotta do better than that. A drug addict that does not make.
  • Chai Tea Latte...the drink of champions. You had to steal Stud's estrogen clinic admittance card to present at Starbucks in order to buy this, correct?

I think the strongest (circumstantial) argument against Dara doping is that she would likely to have been doing so while pregnant. I can't imagine any woman conciously endangering the health of her yet-to-be-born child that way. Skip Montanaro Women drink and smoke while they are pregnant and some don't think twice about it. I've heard a woman actually brag that she drank at least two beers a day while she was pregnant. She further bragged that she was drunk when her water broke. Motherhood and pregnancy is not an instant denotationof sainthood. If Torres is doing anything illegal, I'm sure it is well hidden. If she is doing anything illegal, any mechanism developed to detect illegality will not indicate a positive result.

It is a slippery slope indeed--you start with two sips of coffee, then move on to a double shot latte or perhaps a no whip triple shot mocha.

Tea - now why doesn't this surprise me at all. I dunno...maybe because I'm a Brit and we know not to make it with "harbour water" when you want a cup? :thhbbb:

Evan, Dude..... you're just pissed off I didn't have an extra starbucks for you in the swim parents tent at the meet at JO's last week. Dude, I'm gonna kick your butt today at lunch at workout. Tell your bald headed cohort to suit up. The fistacuffs are coming out today, and we are going 10x100s blast. If you let an old man 15 years your senior beat you, you will be shamed. Speaking of coffee...... you should have seen me at Stanford worlds. I downed a double shot and drank half of Evil Smith's double shot. Susan Von der Lippe (Rapp) said I reminded her of "Hammy" the squirrel from the movie "Over the Hedge". Glad I remembered to take my motrin after the race. I almost blew a gasket on that 50.
