a glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away. red wine creates good cholesterol, and has cardio benefits. however, if a person is incapable of just drinking one, then they shouldn't drink any!!! one beer a day is also said to prevent alzheimers (sp?)...but that hasn't been as talked about as the red wine. again, though, who drinks just one beer? certainly not me! i've not drank alcohol for a few weeks and noticed that i swim better. However i think i was overdoing the beer a bit..2 or so on an evening..
  • In addition to 1-2 beers a day. I have also been hearing a lot about the benefits of a glass of red wine per day.

It all depends on your body type, sex, weight, and how much you now. Use the pilots rule of not drinking within 8 hours of flying. Beer and a 200 butterfly do not mix well. If you are not drinking anything don't start and if you are limit what you can haddle to keep you under the .08 limit. Or talk with your doctor. Coach Steven Fair:D Swim then Beer

Alcohol has some benefits, and it also has toxins, and sugar. For me, personally, I'm a super featherweight when it comes to alcohol, and "A" beer will give me a mild hangover. In my case, not good for performance.

I also have heard that wine can be good. From what I've heard the alcohol itself can have some benefits. But there are also other compounds that offer benefits. Thus, wine and beer appear to be "good," but I've heard little or no good things about hard alcohol. Of course, moderation is important. I knew of someone who loved to drink. When he mowed his lawn, he'd have a can of beer at each end to "reward" each pass. (Then, in time, he got a riding lawn mower, and just carried a can of beer.) I believe he had some health problems, and I'm sure that his heavy drinking didn't help. (Although, sometimes, when lap swimming goes poorly, this system sounds good.)

recently went to a general practioner doc, and we discussed drinking...he said women should have only one drink per day--preferably red wine. He said a glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away. Red wine creates good cholesterol, and is loaded with antioxidants...so it strengthens the immunie system, and keeps colds/flus where they belong--far away! Men, since they are bigger, etc, could probably do 2 glasses of red wine a day--but one is still a good policy. He said beer has benefits, but not nearly as many as the red wine. Here's to good health! Jerrycat ;)
