Paul's swimming blog

It's not going to be as interesting as Ande's but I realized when I was powerlifting 10 years ago that this is the best way for me to track and evaluate my progress so here it is.
  • Keep it up and we'll have you taking on the macho 200 *** in no time. And the thought that runs thru my head when I read this is not a very flattering one. :thhbbb: Paul
  • And the thought that runs thru my head when I read this is not a very flattering one. :thhbbb: Paul No kidding. Don't go over to the dark side, Paul!
  • I guarantee that 400 IM will happen waaaaaaaaaay before 200 Breaststroke. And that ain't anytime soon. Paul

Ahhh the 200 *** - an event for REAL men and women. Jim: Back in September I went 2:33.87 for the 200 BR as a 48 yo at a meet directed by our USMS president (see the results here: www.dixiezone.org/.../0709peachtree.htm). Does that time look familiar to you or what!!! Gotta get those results submitted to the USMS database somehow. Mark
  • 16 Jan 2008 WEIGHTS!!!!! :party2::party2::party2: Treadmill 15min, 1.21miles (6) - Was getting bored with 10min so increased it to 15 and threw 2 2min 6mph runs in there. Squats 45x10, 135x10, 135x10 - I had forgotten how much I missed these. Still weak but more concentrating on form than weight. Seated Leg Curl - 125x10, 140x10 Seated Calf Raise - 80x15, 80x15 Incline BB Press - 45x12, 115x10, 135x10 DB Flyes - 15x10, 20x10 Leg Raises - 20,20,20 Cable Crunch - 160x20, 180x20, 200x20 Standing DB Hammer Curl - 15x10, 20x10 Standing EZ-Bar Curl - 45x10, 45x10 Couple of observations 1) Need to work on my shoulders more, noticing definate weakness in front delts 2) Glad I swam 4 months before I went back to the gym cause I never used to be able to hit my abs quite that hard, nor did I enjoy it like I am.
  • I guarantee that 400 IM will happen waaaaaaaaaay before 200 Breaststroke. And that ain't anytime soon. Paul, any thoughts to do a 2fly in the near future? Add Dave Barra and I to the mix, put a bottle of tequila on the line and you may have a great race!
  • Paul, any thoughts to do a 2fly in the near future? Add Dave Barra and I to the mix, put a bottle of tequila on the line and you may have a great race! I'll just buy you a bottle, that will save me from having to go thru that. Order of execution: 400 IM 200 Br 200 Fly I'm still flailing thru 50 Fly, the concept of a 100 is staggering to me right now.
  • 17 Jan 08 5am SCM with team Got there a little late 500 swim w/u Decided to try a distance workout. Then I saw the board: 10x400 Odds Pull, 2: Broken 100s R :10, 4: Kick, 6: Odd Free, Even Stroke, 8: Free Swim So I hung for the first 2 400s then I just had to :whiteflag:and move lanes. 400 Pull 400 Free by 100s R:10 2x50 Br on 1:05 5x50 Fly Kick down/Swim Back on 1:05 5x50 Kick 5x50 Pull 5x50 Stroke (back) 5x50 Free descend on :55 10x25 Free on :35 8x25 Free on :30 6x25 Free on :25 4x25 Free on :20 100 EZ I will never look at 28 25s the same again, the last 4 were touch-gulp-turn-go. Whew, I be tired. 3450m in about 1:20. I just realized that this is the farthest I have gone since I started. Whew. No wonder I feel tired. But it's a great tired. Paul
  • Thanks, That first 400 almost killed me. The biggest problem was trying to keep the pull bouy from getting away on the flip turns. My legs were shaking. I think what I am going to do is one of the Tues/Thurs am practices will be distance. Hopefully next week's won't be quite as harsh as that one and I can hang a little longer. Paul
  • I don't see how 10 x 400 is going to help you in our ongoing grudge race. But you stick with this plan and I'll keep doing Esther's workouts. Muhahaha.
