Paul's swimming blog

It's not going to be as interesting as Ande's but I realized when I was powerlifting 10 years ago that this is the best way for me to track and evaluate my progress so here it is.
  • I tried to explain it in post #5 of Beth's "sleepless in lawrenceville" thread.
  • Hey folks, this is MY blog :thhbbb: I'm trying not to do the whole 'better living thru modern chemistry thing' and what I'm dealing with is not the common definition of insominia. I can go to sleep and remain asleep for 1-2 hours, then I wake up, then go back to sleep for 1-2 hours, wake up, etc.. The major issue there is I'm not getting to stage 3 sleep or if I do it's not for very long. Last night was a little better cause I fell asleep at about 11 and didn't wake up again until 4:30 or so. BUt I am altering my routine. I'm not drinking any caffeine after 6pm, trying to reduce/eliminate TV viewing after 8:30pm and reducing my reading. We'll see how that goes. Paul
  • But it's an open forum, so we get to interject just like we did on JZ's blog. Ha, ha. :thhbbb: Um, that is a common form of insomnia, intermittent sleep or frequent awakening. Many different types of insomnia.
  • Yeah, they'll let anyone in here. :thhbbb: Yeah, I realize that it is insomnia but the (wo)man on the street common definition is laying there for hours not being able to get to sleep. Just trying to shed a little light on what I am experiencing.

I think we need a separate blog site. Is there a blog site that does not allow comments???
  • 12 Jan 2008 I knew I had to leave at about 9:40 so I upped the effort level knowing that I was not doing the whole hour. 9am SCM with team 300 swim, 150 kick (no fins), 150 pull 4x25 Fly 1 arm drill on :40 4x25 Br 3 kick 1 pull on :45 4x25 Back, 6 kick, 1 pull 7x75 Free on 1:20 (could have gone on 1:15 but my lane mates were not up for it), held :56 except for the last which was :52 2x75 IM on 1:30 Had to get out at this point 1575m in about :40 Paul
  • You know it's bad when you leave work early to swim. Had to take Erika to her MRI so I decided to leave 30 min early than I had to and hit the pool since once again, I did not sleep well and could not get up for 5am practice. 15 Jan 08 SCY omo 300 w/u 6x50 Free on :50 4x25 Fly on :30 2x75 IM on 1:30 6x50 Free on :50 4x25 Back on :30 2x75 IM on 1:30 I was completely gassed at this point but luckily I had to go anyway. 1400y in about 25 minutes Paul

With only about 3 months of swimming, I put some good swims in and have set a very solid base to build off of. The most suprising is the 100 Br result. Is that because I swam it well, or that most folks hate Evilstroke? So we'll see how I do in my training in '08. Paul
  • The most suprising is the 100 Br result. Is that because I swam it well, or that most folks hate Evilstroke? Good job!! For edification on this point, you should read "Why do most masters swimmers hate breaststroke?" forums.usms.org/showthread.php
