Do you have any specific dry land exercises you do for your knees. I know extensions and curls are good to stabilise.
Anyone have any other tips?

I think a general flexibility program would be helpful, too. If your hip flexors, hamstrings, quads, etc. are not as tight, there might be less stress and pulling on your knees. Just a thought ... I hope it helps! :)
Fort's first post had a lot of good tips.Lots of warmup, lots of cool down, lots of stretching, ice, ice, ice. Speaking of ice, don't walk on it. That seems to be harder on your knees than breaststroke.
Last time I actually trained a lot of breaststroke (1998), I'd do quad and hamstring strength exercises, and abductors/adductors with surgical tubing a few times a week. Then before each and every practice: stretch out quads and hamstrings (hamstrings in typical way w/ one up on a low table, bending towards it; quads both lying on my tummy one at a time and standing w/foot hooked on a chair or table). Stretching took about 20 min total. Then after each and every practice, ICE. I remember going to 98 LCM Nats and sitting in the hotel room after each day with big bags of ice on my knees. And then not swimming one single whipkick for 6 months after that meet. I was 23 at the time.
Take it easy on yourself, Rich. Even Allen says he does some pull with dolphin kick to spare his knees. And alas, Barb is right about the tiling... it really does stress the knees and open them up for injury.

Well if I can get any takers on my Gigalo business I could afford it...spread the word ;)
It's not a back-brace (with rods and stuff)...it's a neoprene wrap thin...just supports me a bit more and has done the trick.
Just so everyone knows...my knees didn't groan, mumble or mutter about me tiling. The knee brace makes my knee hurt, because it squished the inflamation I guess.
If you can't spell it....don't quit your day job.:joker:

I agree...stretching all the muscles around your knee will help with its flexibility. so stretch before warmup, then while warming up do a few laps of really easy *** kick to get the feel. Then your ready!
if it hurts after then just ice...
well thats what i do anyway. i think my knees are mad at me for swimming so long. Just got to stop dislocating it i guess ;)

I guess I shouldn't moan...the first time in 37 years...the left knee is the problem child...but this time the right is griping.
Normally I warm up with free. Do stretches in the water: Lunges, side lunges, groin stretches. I stretch my hams in the shower but not too aggressively. I believe in easy warm-up, then stretch a bit then warm up a bit more then swim. I have been known to sit on the deck after warm up and stretch too. This aggravates the noodlers who come along and ask if I am in or out to which I reply in, but tell them they're welcome to share the lane...they seem to get upset that they don't have a lane to themselves though...oddness...

LOL Allen I feel it if I walk on ice...it's bad on knees and ankles...
Well i guess I'll see how the kneel feels in the water tomorrow.
I don't have a choice on the tiling it's 60% done nobody will take the job to finish it now...wife doesn't care, my best buddy just done crashed his truck and the dawg upped and died!
