What's your powerbar?

Gang what is your favourite power/energy bar? what do you guys like for energy and not repeating on you during practice?
  • I like this topic. I've tried them all lately and the repeating thing is a definite problem for me. And, most of them come in huge sizes and I can't stop myself from eating the whole thing. I'm interested in the responses. I guess if I had to choose, Clif Bars are the best for me but not fantastic.
  • A SNICKERS bar does fine for me especially on the days I swim a double workout. Donna
  • i'm a fan of oatmeal raisin harvest powerbars and lemon zest luna bars. in a pinch, the nutz over chocolate luna bars work too. luna bars are supposedly extra good for women (lots of folic acid and things) but to me, they're just tasty. i think they're made by the clif bar people. i've thankfully never had them repeat on me.
  • Any Gu with caffeine but you don't really need to eat during an hour workout; you need to eat beforehand. Banana, dried apricots (or other fruit that doesn't have sugar added), fig newtons or any combination of the aforementioned. Eat at least 45 minutes before the heavy sets start.
  • PB on wheat for me too. But I like Luna Smores and Clif's Lemon Poppy. I can do caffeinated carb/protein gu gels too. Some people hate the texture, but I don't mind it and they are easily digestible. 30 minutes before is usually good. I don't usually have too much trouble with "repeats." But I wouldn't like to eat a huge meal right before practice. If you have trouble, try accelerade in the water during practice. Snickers marathon bars are disgusting! Like lead in the stomach. • I usually practice in the evenings on my way home from work, so usually the last food down is whatever I ate for lunch. IF I show up for a morning practice, I usually chow on something quick, like a bran bar or single cup of dry cereal on my way out the door. During meets, my powerbar is a PowerBar, usually vanilla or peanut butter. I also like it when my mom makes her sugar-topped blueberry muffins for breakfasts during a meet weekend. Yum. If the meet is long, I'll carry some extra muffins, bran bars, rice crispy treats and sometimes the trusty ham sandwich to carry me until the post-meet chow. :dedhorse:
  • I have a Men's magazine that heavily advertises this NOXplode stuff. Anyone had any experience with that?
  • I like Peanut Butter Power Bars best ... Sweet and Salty Peanut Bars are great too, I think they are by Nature Maid/Made? PBJ and is a big favorite, too ... I like peanutbutter and lemon cliff bars as well ... luna bars are okay as well ... peanutbutter is a favorite of mine, in case you can't tell ... Gu ... blech, I'm going to try some again but when I ran with that stuff ... blech ... bananas are good, too!
  • I never eat powerbars before workouts. Usually I don't eat anything between lunch and workout time (5:40 p.m.), but sometimes I'll eat a piece of fruit (apple, orange, pear). Yeah, occasionally if I'm really hungry and I don't have anything else I'll get a candy bar or something from the vending machine at the office. I've always found it interesting how different people react to eating before a workout. In general I don't have any problems with food "repeating" on me! However, a couple times I've eaten at an Indian restaurant immediately before workout. Not suggested.
  • Sweet and Salty Peanut Bars are great too I love those, too. We buy the big 40 pack or whatever it is they sell at Costco.
