I like peanut butter and jelly (or just peanut butter) on any old bread I've got around. I can eat a half a sandwich worth up to 1/2 hour before either practice or a meet event and not have "barf" issues.
Of course, I'm also an old Gatorade kinda guy... blue or red. I sip these during meets, but prior to or during a practice it's just water out of the tap for me.
I just go for large buckets of lard.....A bucket of lard and a spoon is all you need Rich....You will have energy to burn for days.

Um i've been busting my gut since Nov to burn the one I was hiding on my body. I'm down to 180.5 this am from 193 peak circa Turkeyday.
No lard...thanks. Stop hijacking my serious thread! ;)
I like this topic. I've tried them all lately and the repeating thing is a definite problem for me. And, most of them come in huge sizes and I can't stop myself from eating the whole thing. I'm interested in the responses.
I guess if I had to choose, Clif Bars are the best for me but not fantastic.
How much time beofre swimming Geek? I try to do the 45min thing. Meals I need 90 minutes.
I used to go with "powerbar" but that was for soccer and running...it didn't repeat on me.
"Laying down" swimming obviously has some effect of the amount of gas exiting north...versus running and well, creating space between yourself and the defender.
yuck I tried the snickers marathon bars a few meets ago...and I just couldn't stomach it. Ended up throwing more than 3/4 of it away. So I am very interested in seeing what you all enjoy.
I've actually never had the cliff bars...my swim team loves them though. Although one boy was saying how he ate them throughout a 4day meet...and it took his digestive system/GI tract an additional week to get back to normal afterwards. haha
My workouts are lighter than most of yours, no doubt, but I've never had a problem with Luna bars either. They give you the energy and they taste really good. My favorite: dulce de leche. Warning though: these are sweet.
PBJ on wheat. I try to avoid the energy bar hype. I am quite certain that my answer is just as healthy and certainly less expensive. As for time...a 1/2 hour before is fine by me.
To be honest, I did go on a power bar kick for a month or so but did not notice any difference between them and my old standby. YMMV.

I'm a PB no J fan. Or Nutella. Was thinking something different though. I didn't eat enough last night and I am fearing a dizzy spell after IM's tonight. LOL
