  • there was something wrong with the electronic timing in some heats according to dave eisner. skippy's last 50 leg of the 200br had her at 1:12 and we all know that is ridikulus.:shakeshead: the clock had stopped at 40.2 and the backup time was 40.9 which is more typical for me. but a 48, i don't think so not for a 50 fr:shakeshead::frustrated:

Swimcat Is this the Clasic City meet? I didn't do so hot, so I haven't followed up. What's going on with the getting the times in the meet db? Edit: I see now the results are up on the DZ site...I guess they'll load them to the USMS meet db soon. What event(s) did they mess the times up on for you? swam a meet 2 weeks ago. timing was a disaster. i am being credited a time, i did not do.:bitching::rant3::rant3::censor: it was supposed to be straightened out. :bitching::rant3:

You must not have activated the pad and that definitely sucks. I had that happen once in the 200 BR at the Metro Conference semis in 1981. My coach had me at 2:10.0, but the pad had me at 2:13.3 , iirc. Did they tell you what the back-up time was? If so, you should be able to get Ed to send an adjusted time in to the USMS folks (I think there is some sort of formula they use.) You should probably check the USMS rulebook, however, as I'm not sure on this procedure. it is now posted on dixiezone.org. and from what i can tell none of the times have been changed. i accept that yes, i was still tired from ynats and was swimming hurt(slap tear and superspinatus injury) but. i know what i saw and the backup timer saw. glider, it was on the 50 free.:rant3:

I remember you talking to me about that the day of the meet. That's gotta be frustrating! The only thing I can recommend is what Glider said which is to email or call Ed Saltzman as I believe he submits the times. I like your avatar. That's one crazy cat! How bout one of the pug? He's probably in retirement though. :joker:
  • Hulk, move to Dallas!! We need YOU! Our summer club has 200+ kids. For starters....15 screaming 6 & under girls, 35+ 7-8 yrs, and 55+ whopping 9-10 year old girls...and lots of boys! We don't have enough coaches, either. Great pool, 6 lanes, 3 workouts a day, but with 200+ kids...there is very little dedicated stroke technique/instruction. Our coach who does an amazing job (especially with 400+ parents), a fellow master swimmer, is all about getting help on deck or in any position! HOLY COW!!! ONE coach? For 200+ swimmers? That's unreal. And soooo not fair to the kids. Can't a team that size justify additional coaches? Or lean very heavily on the 15+yo swimmers to help out? I'm assuming that there are at least assistant coaches? We're at 160+ kids (but that includes 30 that are in our pre-team program run by 2 of our older swimmers) with 1 HC and 2 ACs. Plus the 2 pre-team coaches. Where I live having that kind of turnout would be WONDERFUL. The community I live in had 5 teams when I swam. It now has 3 and one of them is in danger of not having enough swimmers. Just wondering for those with kids in summer leagues. What is your format like? Here it's 6 team divisions, 5 age groups, 8&U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. www.mcsl.org, it's one of the older summer leagues in the country and is the league I swam in from 1974 to 1985. Just wondering. Paul
  • That's the way it is here also, six divisions, 5 or 6 teams per division. Most teams are 100-200 kids. We have the same age group plus the shrimps. There is also the Y summer league and the country club league also, with similar numbers. 50s start at 11-12, IMs start at 9-10 but only for 3 swimmers per sex/age group. We run late May - early July, one or two meets a week during June. Compact and time consuming but Summer League is a blast. It pretty much ends up being a competition between the teams that have the most year rounders. No year round gear is allowed to be worn at any times, which I do think is fair to all the kids.
  • Geek: sounds about the same. 25s for the 8&Us, 50 Free for the 9-10s, all 50s for 11-12,13-14, 100s except for 50 Fly for 15-18s. IM is 12&U, 13-14, 15-18. 3 swimmers per team per event (exception is 6 swimmers for Free events for 8&U, 9-10, 11-12) plus Boys/Girls Open 200 Medley and Boys/Girls 175m Free creshendo at the end (50 9-10, 50 11-12, 50 13-15, 25 8&U) 5 Dual meets on Sat starting mid-June+ Divisionals (2 fastest swimmers in each event from each team). Divisional relay carnival occurs mid-season. Paul
  • No wonder you're ticked off. Free help turned down? Never a good sign. Territorial coach perhaps? Sorry!! :rant3: More like an insecure one. But the HC is the one in charge. So I work with those kids who want some additional help. Usually the ones 12 and younger. Help is whatever they want to work on. Starts, turns, stroke technique, strategy, whatever. It's about 8-10 kids who are consistently seeking help. After 3 seasons, I think most of them are starting to realize that I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing.
  • We have a great head coach and 3 very good assistants - but still not enough. Dallas has 5 divisions (by size). Format is 5 duel meets, Champs, and All-Stars (top 16 of all divs). The greatest thing our coach did was invite anyone to swim duel meets with us at our home pool - otherwise we'd be driving 1+ hours for away meets. 6 & under this year will score and get DQ'd. (ie, very few fly, ***, IM's). Ok, here's another pet peeve: people who sign up their kids or fail to scratch their kids and then we have to scrabble like mad to adjust the relays!!! Yours truly is the head 6&under girls chaperone, weeee! And one more! Ribbon inflation. Used to be only 1/2/3 when I was a kid. A big deal to get a ribbon! Now we give 1-8th, heat winner ribbons, best time ribbons - EVERY time you get a best time, and participant ribbons. Champs is through 16th place. One little girl cried last meet- because she got another blue ribbon! Hulk, you can coach and i'll save you a coveted spot UTT (under the tent) at meets. You can be a time averager or scorer. Cush job in the shade!
  • Michelle, nah, I'm the evil Stroke & Turn judge :groovy: As for relays, ours are deck entered and the only req is the swimmer must be on the roster that gets exchanged the Friday before the meet. 4 coaches ain't enough. Not for 200+ swimmers. Not a chance. Since the league is limited to a single county, the max travel is about 30 minutes or so. I always wondered what it would like from the air on Saturday mornings between 7:30 and 8:00. 42 caravans of vehicles criss crossing the county (we have 84 teams currently).
