Best Music For Long Distance Swimming?

I think I found the best music for long distance swimming-probably best for a long Ocean Swim........... "Dub Side Of The Moon" by the Easy Star All Stars. It's an awesome remake of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon by Reggae Artists. They plan to cut a remake of Radiohead also. Anyone listen to it?
  • You'd probably like Dread Zeplin then too, they do reggae versions of Led Zeplin. Quite interesting.

I think you should have left an "other" choice in that Poll......I have never heard of the band you mentioned....but a reggae version of Dark Side of The Moon sounds very interesting. I like reggae and can see how it would match well with long distance swimming but I'm not sure yet what genre of music for long distance swimming I think I would prefer yet. I have read that Brian Goodel use to play "Radar Love" by Golden Earing in his head when he swam long distances at practice and at meets....What Genre does that song fall under?....Is it just considered regular old Rock music? I like Jam Band Music a lot and think it should match well here too....Bands like Southern Culture on The Skids, Wide Spread Panic, String Cheese.....there's an awesome jam band stationed in Memphis named Stout....I have one of their albums titled "On The Rocks"....They sound like a mixture of many other jam bands with a vocal style similar to that of the Black Crows. Newmastersswimmer p.s. Parliament would work well....thats Psychodelic Funk...or P-Funk for short.....String Cheese (AKA The String Cheese Incedent) can also be classified as Psychodelic Bluegrass....Other Psychodlic bluegrass artists include: Bella Fleck, Sam Bush, and The New Riders.

Newmastersswimmer Yes I thought about leaving other as an option, unfortunately it was after I submitted the poll and 2 martinis later. There were too many genres too list in the 10 item limit. I met Brian Goodel when I was younger(probably all of 30 seconds- seemed like an hour to me as a kid ) and heard about the "Radar Love" connection to his 500 swim goal time. I used to play the song through my head in workout after that. String Cheese Incident I would imagine would probably be good for Open water.

Tom Petty always pops into my head. Or Kanye West....let's see you jump a spectrum like that. Oh yea...;) Rap should be an option too...I rap a lot to myself...it keeps a good beat.

Another one of his golden statements was "Perfection seldom achieved, often ignored." I blame that statement for my bad spelling! I don't think I play music in my head while swimming because I'm bored. I'll sometimes match the style of music to how I'm swimming. Something slow and steady for a long swim or set. Something with a fast beat and high energy for a sprint or intense set. BTW Nice quote!

You'll definitely want to have a couple of songs that you can really swim to, with a continuous beat that will match the speed that you swim at. I tend to like country more for that because of the slow beats. But when I try to get pumped up for a race, I'll listen to some metal and wined up my arms. But the choice for music is totally up to you and your swimming tech.

I usually go between rap, rock, alternative, and pop. My main criteria for songs is ones that I know the lyrics too, and arn't really really distracting. Like Gold Digger, or Sugar We're Goin Down.

Yesterday, while I was working out, I couldn't get the old version of the Lutheran Agnus Dei out of my mind. I kept singing in my brain "Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world." I think that I probably went through it at least 150 times. I must have done someting really sinful, not realized it, and my mind was trying to tell me something. Oddly, the beat of the song fits very well with my stroke.
