I have been swimming for a while now and there is one thing I can never explain - I will always swim better towards the evening than in the first half of the day.It always feels a lot better swimming in the evening, too.I think I am also faster in the evening. Can anybody explain why that happens?
  • I find just the opposite to be true, I swim far better in the morning. For years I swam in the evenings, after working all day. Between driving to work, working, and driving to workout, I didn't have nearly as much energy in me for workouts. Now I go to swim at the 6am workout, and am usually nice and fresh from the get go. It also makes me feel much more awake and vibrant when I get to the office afterwards. I think I remeber this thread coming up a ways back (like 2 years ago) and the resolution was different people have different times for better performance. Anyone remember?

My preference is to swim over a long lunch break. I used to be able to do that on a regular basis, but then a change in work schedule makes me go mornings now. I take a lot longer to get into full gear.... but I do like the feeling all morning at work. I'm high as a kite!

I was thinking that maybe my muscles get more loose by the evening or I have more energy because obviously in the morning you basically swim on an empty stomach and by the evening you are already "carbohydrated" enough to feel a little "buzz"...

I am a night person....or at least in high school and college. I only have one choice as to when I can swim and that is the morning, so I have had no choice but to adapt to swimming my best then. Once you get into a routine of getting up early daily it becomes less difficult. I do not prefer to be up before 5, but what are the other choices.....well there are none since not swimming is out of the question!

Morning person or night person? I was up until 2:00 am last night and got up at 6:30 to hit the pool. Does that mean I'm both?;)
  • I mainly work out in the early AM rarely in the PM but I did 2 a days in high school and college plus when I swam in prelim / final type meets i tended to swim faster at night in both competition and practice as for why, there's so many factors that come into play it's hard to know which one or ones to pin it on. Maybe I was just more psyched Maybe because I was more warmed up or alert Ande Originally posted by hooked-on-swimming I have been swimming for a while now and there is one thing I can never explain - I will always swim better towards the evening than in the first half of the day.It always feels a lot better swimming in the evening, too. I am definitely not a morning person, I am a typical night owl, maybe that is the reason.I try to throw in some morning practices once in a while, I am getting better at swimming in the morning but still not as good as in the evening...
  • I feel that I can handle swimming at any time of day.
  • The way I feel in the water depends on that day, not if I swam in the morning or at night.

Well, I did not say I can't handle swimming any time of the day, the question is when it feels better...Did you mena to say that it is the same for you regardless of time of the day?
