or
Kate Ledecky, 14 of Curl-Burke, broke 2 13-14 NAG yards records at the
5th Annual National Age Group Team Challenge held at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center Nov 12-13.
She broke a 33-year-old record in the 500 freestyle 4:35.14 held by Sippy Woodhead from 1978 4:39.94
Then she went 9:29.81 in the 1,000 free breaking Michelle Richardson's 9:33.39, from 1984
Katie has OT cuts in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 free & will definitely be one to watch at trials.

16-yo Townley Haas just went 4:17 in the 500, breaking the national record.

Yeah, everyone's all excited about the 18.9 from Dressel in the 50 -- which is, of course, crazy, stupid fast and impressive -- but I'm loving the new crop of distance swimmers coming up on both the men's and women's side. I hope Mr. Haas takes a look at what Michael McBroom was able to do once he transferred to Texas ;)
no girl will come close to her at njo's.
and fyi, her having the fastest time for a 16yo is the ONLY time in history it has happened.
but to put it into perspective, her new WR in the 1500 would get herself lapped by the men (yang is just 4 years older). long course.
she has some super amazing times and swims so far. i hope she keeps it up.
the same medal, usually less fame, double the workout and a race that takes 30x longer than the winner of the 50.
ld is a cruel life.
Chris:
Is this kid Townley Haas the same swimmer as Francis Haas or does he have a twin brother? The reason I ask is because a Francis Haas is in the psych sheets for the 1650 Free with a seed time of 15:16.67 and with this swim if he is the same person and with the time in the 500 Free should be able to break a 15:15.17, which would dispute what Steve said and make the 16 year old boy faster than the 16 year old girl. Unless he completely dies, I cannot see him not breaking 15:15.17

I think Steve was saying no girl would beat Ledecky at Juniors, but we kinda knew that already...
This isn't a NAG record, but I think it deserves a mention:
200 Yard Breaststroke
1 Dang, Ethan 11 KING-PN 2:26.54 2:14.60! 20
r:+0.74 30.38 1:04.29 (33.91)
1:39.30 (35.01) 2:14.60 (35.30)
Look at the age. According to the list on USA Swimming's site this is the eighth fastest time ever for the 11-12 age group in the 200 *** and he's 11.
well a 16yo boy went faster....so no need to worry.
and my teams 15yo went a best time, but his 15:18 didnt beat her.
the winning time for girls....a min + behind.

Saw that. Looks like two 16 year-olds went faster than Ledecky (one by less than a second). They can breathe a sigh of relief now! :)
