  • I dunno but she just took down the 100 back record by a half second too... Was looking at her times earlier, because I know she has swum near us, but I didn't realize she was from Minnesota. Not sure how or why, but most recently she swam at Sectionals in North Carolina (Eastern Section of Southern Zone), along with a few team mates. At any rate, as I went though, I saw that she broke 1:00 in SCY in both fly and back...........at age 10. There's a 14 y/o in Raleigh who beat her in the 50 free in at the ESSZ meet I'm anxious to see in trials next year - she was first under 15 y/o to break 22 in the 50 free the following week at age group sectionals. Wouldn't be surprised if our back strokers next year were 15 and 18 years old. She didn't break a minute in those until she was 11, but she did it by 3-4 seconds. My daughter has swum against her in a few sectionals meets the past few years.
  • Surprised no one has mentioned Regan Smith taking down Missy Franklin's 200M Back world record. I probably would have gotten around to it eventually. If you look though this thread you will see that I have posted about Regan breaking records several times before. I think I first noticed her in meet results when she was 12 or 13. Because of the odd rule they have in MN that middle-schoolers can participate in the HS state meet, she is very likely to finish HS with 5 state titles in one or more events. It's been pretty clear for a couple of years now that she was the odds-on favorite to take down Missy's legendary 2:04, but I have to admit I didn't expect it at this meet.

I remember being very impressed when Smoliga became the first HS girl to go sub-:22 in the 50 SCY fr. Now it's been done by a 14 y.o. I think they swim in faster water then we did 40 years ago;)
  • Honorable mention to Duncan Scott anchoring GB's medley relay within a tenth of a second of Lezak's legendary anchor. That was amazing. I felt sorry for Adrian. It's not like his time was bad, but you just can't expect him to outrun a freight train!

  • Surprised no one has mentioned Regan Smith taking down Missy Franklin's 200M Back world record. When you smash a world record by that kind of margin, what words could possibly do it justice?
