  • Steffen Deibler at German Nationals last week: 100 fly 51.19 that's faster than Phelps in London, fastest time in the world this year, 4th fastest 100 fly all time (textile era), and a German National Record.
  • Just saw a couple incredible ones: 15 year old (yes, you read that right) Ryan Hoffer 19.55 in the 50 free. swimswam.com/.../ 14 year old professional Michael Andrew two NAG records so far at the Minneapolis Grand Prix: 48.78 in the 100 fly and 55.96 in the 100 ***. swimswam.com/.../
  • I expect you're going to see some even greater things from him over the coming years. I hope so. Is he tall and/or muscular for his age?
  • I hope so. Is he tall and/or muscular for his age?It depends upon who you compare him to. Compared to Michael Andrew -- a little shorter (e.g., he's not as tall as me and I'm apparently as tall as Michael Andrew -- swimswam.com/.../), a little less muscular (but I've only seen pictures of Andrew). Compared to the typical 15 year old male swimmer -- taller and more muscular.
  • Just saw a couple incredible ones: 15 year old (yes, you read that right) Ryan Hoffer 19.55 in the 50 free. swimswam.com/.../Ryan swims on my kids' team, is a great kid and a joy to watch swim. Somewhere I read that that 19.55 would've placed him 10th at NCAAs this year! He was also an incredible 48.1 in the 100 fly and, were he able to swim more events, his 100 back would've been sickly fast, as well. It's amazing the difference two years makes for a 13 year old boy vs a 44 year old man. Back in November 2011 at a USAS meet, I could hang with him in the 100 fly (he was 55.3 and I was 55.5). Now, I fear I'd still be at the 75 when he was finishing. I expect you're going to see some even greater things from him over the coming years.
  • This is just mind boggling. Nick Thoman went 44.07 in the 100 yard back 2013 US Winter National Championships, Grevers was 44.49. Thoman’s split 22.47 on his 2nd 50!?! FROM omegatiming.com/Competition

  • Still a big drop for her, but could we see Ledecky break the 15 minute barrier? She's just got to knock off one second per 100.
  • Granted things are likely to change after Junior Nationals, but as of today Ledecky has the fastest time in the US for a sixteen year old regardless of sex. The fastest boy is at 15:23. I bet that doesn't happen often!
