Butterfly, beautiful to watch, difficult to train.
We SDK off every wall.
We're most likely to smack hands with each other and those beside us.
Fly's fun to sprint but no fun when the piano comes down
What did you do in practice today?

The Backstroke Lane

My fly count is now around 1,300m per workout.
Last fly set was 4x(3x100m) ascending intensity, with rest:20,60,90 sec.
Coach has 20x50m fly on the min. planned for tonight.
I swim the 50 Fly in Hannover on July 3rd in the German Masters Championships. If this work does not pay off, Im switching to Backfrog.
Don't know how much all that fly will equate to a sprint race.
Ok, I'll start breathing on the right at practice a bit. thanks! Nothing like the taste of saltwater! I think we need to start a movement to get all distances for all strokes sanctioned. 500 fly, 500fly.. 1650 fly!
I'd be all over 500 fly. 1650 though, I'll have to work into that. I have a "rule" of doing only one 1650 a year to try for TT purposes. So doing another fly would be pushing it. I can see a 1650 IM (400s) with a 50 free extra at the end.

Nooooo don't go moving the goalposts - I've only just (finally) worked back up to a 200 LCM!

Good point, unless it will help with endurance in the last 10 meters, which is where I feel the piano comming down, even in a 50. In SCM I can take it out in 13 high, but then, with the piano, bring it home in 18 ( which is WAY to slow).
Also, I have also noticed a BIG difference between a 50 SCM race and a 50 SCY race.
Any ideas what I can do?

Count your strokes!
This takes my mind off the pain on 100s and 200s, so I guess should work for 50m if you're used to 50yds. It can help prevent the sudden water churning if you know you should finish the length in say, 9 strokes you then know to stretch it out so you can make it, even though you are sprinting.
The small print: I am not a sprinter

You are right about this. I do count my strokes--9 up and 12 back, which, I believe is correct for my time 31sec SCM. I also count them as well as my sdk in practice.
Wow 4 strokes more on the return? I *think* I used to do 10 up 12 back on 34 sec when I swam SCM regularly. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong?
So fly experts, what is a "good" stroke count/stroke difference between 1st and 2nd length? I guess it depends on your height and SDKs off start and turn (I do/did 2-3), but give me your info to analyse:D
In SCY from a dive:
first 25: 12 SDK, 5 strokes
second 25: 8 SDK, 7 or 8 strokes
height: no
wingspan: see "height"
