2008 Swimming New Years Resolutions

What are your 2008 Swimming New Years Resolutions? What have you been procrastinating? Mine are to: 1) lose weight (go from 215 to 205 or better) and 2) do a few more SDK's on hard swims when I'm tired What are yours? Share 'em here We might hold you to 'em.
  • Get my lazy butt back in the water. stay healthy. get back in shape. then perhaps start looking at the clock...
  • Tim, Take a look at the 40-44 age group. Yikes. I feel your pain. Paul Yea, its all those college swimmers...they take 10-15 years off, then decide to come back in their late 30s/early 40s. Strange thing is, my coach usually puts them in my lane when they start back...guess I'm more friendly to newcomers, but they usually move to a faster lane in 2-4 weeks. Actually just did a double workout today (morning + noon), mostly the same set for both, but the 2nd half was a little different at noon. It sure was nice to get outside when it is warmer and sunny (PHX mornings are cold, especially today). Pool was setup LCM for both, which I really like, even if I did 2.5-3k each. Maybe I'll add that to my goal for 2008, do a double at least once a week, and make at least 1-2 workouts a week the sprint set.
  • ENJOY my USA S meet this Sat with the kids swimming the 400 IM 200 Fly 1000 FR I'm 3x as old as some of the gals in my heats! :cane:  A girl has a 6 minute seed time for 1000 Free? I think that _might_ be a typo. It's a shame that the meet was so far away, my daughter would love to swim in it as a 9yo. As for you, you Animal :wine:, way to go. I couldn't live up to your seed times :whiteflag:. Even the 1000 Free would be a struggle :drown:. My hats off to you. Good luck!!!! Paul

My goal is to experience happiness and fulfillment from swimming, and to share it with many others.

Wow, someone with some similar and achievable goals to me. What age group are you in? I've been after that sub-1 min 100 SCY free for years, gave up for a while and did more weights and technique, but I'm planning to do a meet this year, maybe I'll finally get it. What 3 events are you close to NQT's? I'm on the fringe for all ***. Not that I'll go to nationals, but that's a good goal. I can do a 25 fly, beyond that I switch to drill. I really need to dedicate some time to learning that also.... Been doing masters for almost 10 years. I started in the 25-29 age group, and things were much easier, especially 200 BR. Times are much more competitive in the 35-39 (where I am now) and don't look to be getting easier for 20+ years. I am in the 18-24 year old age group. I am at 1:01 for the 100 free. There were 2 times that I thought I was going to beat it. The 1st time my goggles popped off halfway through the race and the 2nd time I flipped too early on the last wall and missed it completely. I have a NQT in the 1650 free. I got 2nd last year at Federal Way. I am close in the 50 free, 500 free, 50 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM.

Paul Thanks for the kind wishes! At this point, prayer sounds like a good resort as well. I'll let you know how it goes. Worse case, I know that I'll have some funny stories to report. My husband is going to be my counter for the 1000 free. But he doesn't know how many laps it is. . . and he asked if I need a counter for the 400 IM. He has so much to learn. . . Yea. I know the gal seeded at 6 minutes. She's fast, but it's a typo.

This may seem like a cop-out, but my sentiment is that if I consistently put in the work and am mindful about my strokes, I will be happy with the result. My biggest resolution is to refine my technique. I need to link the kinetic chain of my back and free much more. It would be great if I could return to swimming breaststroke so I could do some IM events, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.
