Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.

Sorry, disagree here. No matter what science and technology advance to, there are no absolutes, so there will always be doubt.

I disagree with that. Consider the technology that detects THC in peoples blood, hair and urine. Consider DNA testing that has both led to the execution of felons as well as the freeing of those who were wrongly accused. I mean, perhaps you are a doubter, but there is really no argument with certain things scientific. And it seems likely that one day in the not so distant future, science will advance to a degree where it can be determined that these swims are either clean or not.
Another interesting story about Dara, this one from USA Today:
Forty-one-year-old Olympian Torres gains pool of 40-ish fans
www.usatoday.com/.../2008-07-07-torres-fans_N.htm
What's really interesting is the chart at the end of the article. (I don't know why it only shows one woman.)
At 41, Dara Torres will become the oldest female swimmer in Olympic history. The oldest Olympic swimmers:
Male

Is this from Dr Jazz hands? Just curious about your background to make a statement like that?
Sure, I'm a doctor, let's go with that. Or maybe I know what the "protein" line means on a nutrition label, and how a "g" of it might compare to a scoop of magical amino acid power.
So, I take it then that you have a bunch of statistical info to back up your assumption made here.....Using the line of Amino Acids that he developed?
We take vitamins to supplement our diet.....we try different supplements that come out to try and recover faster......What if he did develop a new mixture of legal supplements that can help?
Or, maybe she is just that good!
And speaking of swim culture, and now my cynicism will show. How many out think these sports journalists actually did any serious research into our world? Yea, that's what I thought too, my last observance, sports writers are lazy.
Ken,
Pat Forde, who wrote the ESPN article on Dara, is married to a swimmer that swam with my wife and Mary T. in Louisville, KY long ago. Pat has been living in and around the swimming world for decades now. Whether he wants to be or not, I can assure you, he is now well informed about swimming.... :-)
I know him personally. He is not lazy.
John Smith
Tell me again what her boyfriend does for a living or is that ex-boyfriend now?
I predict it will become increasingly hard to explain her numerous "nutritional" anomalies. First there was the alleged breathing disorder, now the amino acids. What's next? Yet another surprising factoid, or is it?
I do believe that the alleged breathing order as you like to call it is called Asthma.....which would have had to have been diagnosed by a Dr and the request sent to the the Oly Committee to allow her to use the inhaler. You think the Oly Committee is just going to sign off on that without at least doing a little research on the vailidity of the claim.....in this day and age, I think not.
You are so right Japan knocked out the best swimmers the USA had in the 30s, The netherlands have always been a powerhouse.
I knew Peter Mingie he was a pretty good backstroker. In my search for his results I came across this www.swimming.ca/.../Media Guide-Beijing Olympics-web.pdf
I found it pretty interesting although not related to the thread. It Gives a complete history of Canada's swimming at the Olympics. It has a couple of errors that I found - it has me swimming in the 1952 Olympics, I did not. It has left my name off the team for the 1956 Team I was there. It goes to show mistakes can be made.

This page is short on details about exactly which amino acids are in the supplement and in what quantities. It does brag about three particular amino acids: arginine, glycine, and proline.
www.nutritiondata.com/.../2
This page lists the amounts of amino acids in chicken ***. In half of a chicken ***, there is well over a gram each of arginine, glycine, and proline.
A tablespoon of the powder is not likely to have more than 10 grams total of amino acids. If it contained nothing but these three amino acids, it would be about equal to one chicken ***. Of course, chicken contains similar amounts of many other amino acids, just like every other food with a significant amount of protein.
Everything is absolute outside the minds of men, and as you know, Dara Torres is a woman.
