Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.

U.S. Swimming Trials: Torres Credits Amino Acid for Comeback
July 6, 2008

The New York Times
Ridiculous. Spoonfuls of amino acids in powder form don't even compare to the amount in food.
The bigger question in my mind is the exponential increase in the number of athletes using the inhalers...USA Today and SI I believe both had articles on the subject in recent years.
So is it (un)common for middle age adults to start using them...I thought typically people with asthma or breathing problems requiring the use of inhalers usually had the problem early on in their lives?
I used to think the same thing. About two years ago my wife was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 32 after having suffered breathing problems for the prior 5 or 6 months. The MD said it was not uncommon for these things to develop later in life.
This is not to say that many athletes are not looking for a diagnosis in order to obtain a prescription though. No doubt there are many of those.
Looks like the sport continues to push the limits.

I have been a big supporter and fan of Lance Armstrong, just as I was a fan of Greg LeMond in the late 80s and when he won his last Tour in 1990. But this article makes me question Armstrong's achievements. I always believed that after suffering what he did during his treatment for cancer, he could never treat his body badly again. But I don't believe that beyond a shadow of a doubt any longer.
I do believe that there is a reliable test for EPO now and that somebody, or multiple somebodies, will get caught every Tour until riders and teams begin to change their mindsets. I am pulling for Team Slipstream because of their extensive testing program outside that of the Tour organizer's and the UCI's testing program. Vandevelde is in 3rd place and I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is clean.
Iwannafly - I have decided to stick my head in the sand on Lance Armstrong much as tjburk has done on his hero Torres. We all have our limits as to what we can believe. I like Lance and that is my lame excuse.
At least I am consistent--I question his achievements, too.
I recognize my inconsistency and embrace it. I also like The Smiths which goes against all I know to be good and wholesome.

I like him too and until I read this article (yesterday) I had absolute faith that he was clean. Now, my faith is shaken, but only slightly, because I can't seem to get over my impression that Lemond is a bit of a whiner and that he's jealous of Armstrong's achievements. The one piece of that article that made it something other than Lemond against the world, was the bit about the woman who was in Armstrong's hospital room when he supposedly admitted to using EPO.
Looks like the sport continues to push the limits.

They just won't give up on that will they! The L.A. Times is the epitome of good reporting too! That whole article sounded a tad bit biased!!!
I do beleive the exemption he had was for cancer treatment! And the French really loved Lance for dominating "their" tour every year!!!!!

Could be an off day for a great newspaper. Or maybe the problem is that they disagree with you.
