Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot:
If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.
What investigation are they going to do George? Hide cameras and microphones in her home? Until technology and science progress a bit further, nobody is going to know for sure if there is more to the Dara story than meets the eye.
So I beg to ask of all the naysayers what real thing could she possbily do in your eyes so you can believe she is illegal drug free?
Another quote from Thomas Jefferson; Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper.
I haven't posted on these forums for almost 6 months, because of all the negative stuff about Dara, and almost anyone else over 23.
I talked with her and her trainer during the 2004 trials, mentioning that she looked in good enough shape to beat the women sprinters, she just smiled:)
Nothing pleased me more to see her win two sprint events.
Like Dara, I was diagnosed with asthma when I was about 40, and let me tell you that no amount of albuterol or any other medication gives you an advantage over someone without asthma. All it does is let you get somewhat close to what you were before. There were days going to Nationals that I could not swim 15 yards underwater without my lungs wanting to explode. And with lots of preparation by the last days of Nationals I could easily swim several lengths underwater.
Bottom line is some people are blessed with great genetics for swimming, and Dara was born fast, and unlike most of us, has never been out of shape.
I wonder how many Olympic athletes are going to experience fairly severe exercise-induced asthma (maybe for the first time) as a result of the poor air quality in Beijing?
I never had a problem as a kid growing up in the San Francisco area. I attended USC and UCLA in the early 70s though. There were days it was very difficult to take deep breathes. I haven't lived there since 1977, so I can't tell how much it might have improved or degraded since then. Based on the reports I've read and heard of the draconian measures the Chinese government is taking that the air quality there is exceedingly bad. Fortunately for most of the athletes they get to go home after the games.

I would think it would be easier to absorb the amino acids in that form than in the protein form. In addition, the balance of different amino acids can be tailored to the needs of human metabolism (I'm thinking of the 20 essential amino acids) rather than what the chicken, cow or pig or soybean happens to produce.

Most 40-45 year old women do not have the TIME that Dara puts into her training hence that is reflected in the age group times. Dara's job is her training, not her modeling, not her child(I am sure there is a nanny). I don't know too many women in this age group who can spend that time working out, they have jobs, kids(without nannies), volunteer work, and usually are exhausted and an hour or 2 in the pool a few days a week is tops they can make. So comparing Dara to people who are not pro-swimmers is not a good comparison.
It is a fact that most master swimmers are recreational swimmers and are not able to compete at the international level. It is not meant to be a downer, it is fact.
You seem to be mixing facts to your personal opinions. Most Masters swimmers I know are competitive swimmers, not recreational. No recreational swimmer I know puts in 3-5K workouts 3 or 4 days a week.
I think the combination of Dara's training methods, focus and financial resources are unprecedented in a 40-plus female athlete/swimmer... so who really knows what other women could be accomplishing, at even younger ages?
I definitely agree with your statement about her being a professional swimmer, that is nicely stated.
I think her training has assumed some sort of urban legend mythical status, probably because her age gets her a lot of publicity. She's not doing anything ground breaking or revolutionary. All these pros do some really innovative training things. Who wants to hear about a 19 year old swimmer killing themselves for the Olympics when you have the ANOMALY of a 41 year old mother spending sugar daddy money on her compulsion?
Adult onset asthma is not rare, although it is less common than childhood asthma. It occurs more frequently in women and may be related to hormonal changes (like pregnancy).
Thank you, I didn't think I was making it up.
George, I am not a recreational swimmer. You are.
:duel::duel::duel:
I am just a swimmer who likes to play in the pool and get a sun tan. I may be a real swimmer in August, then maybe not.
Fort I thought you were a runner not a swimmer. Oops no running on a bad ankle, you must be a swimmer.
I went running today to fight fat. :thhbbb: Then I did a little sprinty workout so I could hopefully continue to be 3.5 seconds off my college 100 free time. :)
