Dara just one the national title in the 100M Freestyle in 54.4 at the ripe old age of 40. Simply Incredible. :applaud: :woot: If that's not inspiring I don't know what is.

From what I read, what she might have lost in muscle, she's gained in skill... (technique, etc.) It's not all about mass you know... You still have to train properly, efficiently, eat right, etc. The thing is... being a mature athlete, you care about living well, and not so interested in the health risks... How could you care so much about your body, training, etc. just to throw all that away on poor decisions? No, it doesn't make sense...
  • hi paul, have you been 10:10 in practice recently negative splitting is the way to swim a 200 ande Bad lack of editing by me on the post...I corrected it to say I'm "NOT" a sprinter. The last 1000 I swam for time was about 12 months ago....I think it was around 10:16. Like I said...I hate that distance and will usually edit a set if given that distance, break it up into a mix of swim/kick/pull. I did pull a sub 5:00 500 a few weeks back.... And Ande...you really shouldn't refer to John's wife and your former teammate as a "tophy wife"!
  • It isn’t cheating if she is your only true love and you are not using performance enhancing drugs to keep her.:smooch: Nice job, Rob. There go Cialis and Viagra as potential USMS sponsors!

  • hi paul, have you been 10:10 in practice recently negative splitting is the way to swim a 200 ande And I'm (contrary to most peoples thinking) a "sprinter" (my most recent SCY 200 free was a negative split 1:44+ and I went 4:48 in the 500). The cross training I do allows me to extend my range from the 50 thru the 500 (I don't swim the 1000 in meets as I find it very boring but have been under 10:10 in practice the few times I've not opted out).
  • is it cheating to have a trophy wife? I disagree. I think it's all about ego. It's human nature, like it or not. Look at the money spent on Botox, cosmetic surgery, trophy wives. Aging is frustrating and unfair. The temptation to cheat the process is hard to resist. If our rule book contains a section on proper entry during warmup and a prohibition on the use of tobacco products on deck, why not a statement prohibiting the use of performance enhancing drugs? Offenders would face a two year suspension and forfeiture of records and national championships.

... With lots of brains behind her training from all areas as team DT has, I can believe she can add 10 pounds of muscle without enhancement. Dara hasn't gained 10 pounds. She lost 10 pounds.

Todays designer drugs being EPO and HGH you tend to see much leaner athletes than the old school drugs....think Lance Armstrong. ... So now Lance is a doper as well?
  • That season I dropped my 500 time from around 5:10 to close to 5:00. That was the year SC Nats were in Ft. Lauderdale and that was probably my best meet to date, at least short course. Kirk, Sounds like you're the "few years older" version of me... that's a very familiar situation for me as well. I was on my bike a lot that year as well, doing a bit of training for a small tri. It is hard to remember what I did that year but I'm probably a bit of an extreme case for variation in training (ie hockey?!?!). On a Dara note, I thought that ball/weight/freestyle pose thing was very intriguing, and think i may try that at some point.

Syd, here's my thoughts: -Keep in mind he's in his 20's, for us old farts we need to listen a bit more to our bodies.......... Except that for some of us, we're also getting hard of hearing (with age).
