National Festival of Swimming

I haven't thought this through so it is probably a hairbrained idea but... Has anyone ever proposed a national Masters gathering that is not "championship oriented", e.g. where you aren't limited to three events if you can't make NQTs, perhaps with an associated open water event, and just more of an orientation toward gathering than high performance?
  • I remember swimming Nationals in 2003, pregnant. After my 200 back a coach, heh-hem, headcoachKerryOBrien (said quickly under my breath!)- and some of my "teammates" had a great time teasing me about the twin towers they observed as I swam! I fear no suit, much drag- very ugly! :thhbbb: As long as you do backstroke (with spin turns) you'll be okay.

That would be micro-science when you swim nekkid though, right Jim? *BOOM!*:dedhorse: Damn that felt good! :applaud: :woot:   :groovy: :drink:  :p :thhbbb: You've been waiting for that for a while now haven't you? LOL! I guess I deserve that one though LOL! Newmastersswimmer

The "plans" (;)) for this are coming right along. Has anybody thought of when and where to have this? Seems like there are enough people just motivated enough to make this happen so I think we should keep it alive and going. I know a place to get bouncy castle....and a portable pole.....
  • Perhaps the festival should include a study of this phenomena. I will volunteer to run the stopwatch and take notes of the girls' swims.:D

At the risk of TMI, I guarantee my drag coefficient would be higher than any guy's. Me thinks the study might be flawed if only smaller chested women were participants. (Well, someone had to point this out....)
  • As long as you do backstroke (with spin turns) you'll be okay.  Yea, like anybody'd notice the turns!
  • May be someone math oriented (Bork?)could figure out the nexus of all paths for participants and we could have the gathering there. Fargo here we come! And this is where a GIS Specialist like me comes in really handy. Although, I've got a really busy day today, so I'll plan on having this kind of fun tomorrow. I will weight the choice taking into account where the most registered USMS swimmers are as well. That's really the true fair way to do it. I wonder if there is a simple way to find the total number of registrants in each LMSC? A nice master list would come in handy. (I actually prototyped a neat internet site that would find all swim meets or pools within your specified range driving distance within the date range you choose. It had all sorts of other fun search options as well and all were GIS based. Fun stuff. If I have time to try to convert this to something that can run on a free or nearly free service I'll do that. But it will have to wait until my Master's degree is finished next year. No time.)
