National Festival of Swimming

I haven't thought this through so it is probably a hairbrained idea but... Has anyone ever proposed a national Masters gathering that is not "championship oriented", e.g. where you aren't limited to three events if you can't make NQTs, perhaps with an associated open water event, and just more of an orientation toward gathering than high performance?
  • And after reading further, it looks like I'll have it also take into account the "warm and sunny" factor and I guess I should also make it near a major city/major college so we can have a good pool and do some exploring.
  • California? Hmm, what a lovely place for such a wacky adventure. Pacific Masters is the largest LMSC... if that has any pull, I'll use it! :)

As Leo wrote, as he seized upon my tongue-in-cheek posting re USMS Convention, this year the annual gathering of party animals is in California...well, why not? Everyone can come and serve as a defacto 'Entertainment Committee' and schedule a full slate of the previously discussed events to coincide with the official meetings. I'm sure Karen could talk Michael Moore into coordinating the whole thing. I'm sure Leslie could be our lawyer should things...get...out...of...hand...

I say we should do this at Swimming Mecca.....Ft Lauderdale where the Swimming Hall of Fame is!!!!! Nice facility too!!!!!
  • SS- Where do you live in CT? My husband grew up in Derby, and graduated from Southern CT... what is your name (if you're willing) :) By the way I'll see your BBQ and hot tub, and throw in a trampoline, bouncy tent (SB of course- to be rented), and Buck the mounted talking, singing deerhead!!!! Huh, huh, bring it on :drink: Anaheim is good. I think most LMSC's pay for travel and lodging don't they? So, free trip, party antics... just think of what we could do to Minnie when she's alone- we could slip her a Mickey! :p OK time for bed. Good thing I know how to swim, I think I've finally gone off the deep end!
  • SenorStud- I know just where Danbury is- I know you'll sleep better knowing I possess such immense knowledge. I love CT. We hope to move back there in the next ten years or so... we'd already be there if it wasn't for my Dad's cancer (discovered in 2001). My husband's whole family lives within an hour of each other (although that's not saying much in CT!). They live in Derby, Cromwell, Glastonbury, and Newington. Morgan- he started swimming at 15 in hs. He went on to swim at SoCtStCollege (later SCSU). He had a bunch of team records, won New Englands, team captain, yadda, yadda, yadda- I hate him! :p Just kidding. How about you?

Huh, huh, bring it on :drink: Where do I live? Are you planning on a visit? Haha ;) I live near Danbury. I'm not a native though so it's unlikely I know your hubby. I went to Fairfield U (Go Stags). I'm always willing ;) You have to place the bouncy bouncy near to the hot tub though so we can *BYOING* from it into the water!
