I haven't thought this through so it is probably a hairbrained idea but...
Has anyone ever proposed a national Masters gathering that is not "championship oriented", e.g. where you aren't limited to three events if you can't make NQTs, perhaps with an associated open water event, and just more of an orientation toward gathering than high performance?
May be someone math oriented (Bork?)could figure out the nexus of all paths for participants and we could have the gathering there. Fargo here we come!
And this is where a GIS Specialist like me comes in really handy. Although, I've got a really busy day today, so I'll plan on having this kind of fun tomorrow.
I will weight the choice taking into account where the most registered USMS swimmers are as well. That's really the true fair way to do it. I wonder if there is a simple way to find the total number of registrants in each LMSC? A nice master list would come in handy.
(I actually prototyped a neat internet site that would find all swim meets or pools within your specified range driving distance within the date range you choose. It had all sorts of other fun search options as well and all were GIS based. Fun stuff. If I have time to try to convert this to something that can run on a free or nearly free service I'll do that. But it will have to wait until my Master's degree is finished next year. No time.)
