  • My mom hates it. It's just too dull for her. Their old neighborhood was very young with lots of kids in the neighborhood. Their new one doesn't allow kids and it's dead quiet. When you walk around you hardly even see anyone outside. Tell her to try one of the newer Sun City developments (by Del Webb)! There is a lot going on at Sun City Peachtree, here in Georgia! (This coming from a native Californian who spent most of her life in San Diego...) NO, there isn't much in the way of children running around (except during their pool visiting hours at the outdoor pool during the summer), but it definitely is NOT dull! My husband and I used to live in a community with a lot of children, but we weren't much appreciated by anybody there, because we didn't have kids to offer up for "play dates". Ugggh! I tried to start an adult social group there, but it was ALL about the kids... Now I'm playing with kids my own age! :D Tonight is "Club O'Peachtree", pub night to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. It sure beats "Winter Wonderland", the kiddie party at our old neighborhood... (There were never parties for adults.) We don't have kids, so in my opinion, this is THE place to be! Besides, I have my own lane in our indoor swimming pool! :D

From their description, that place sounds like the bomb. 400 square miles, something like 10 fishing clubs, 25 softball teams, 30 dancing clubs, bocce ball out the wazoo (go figure- everyone is from Jersey or NY). I could live there, but I'd probably lose my job with all of the recreational opportunities.

There are around 100,000 people living there and it's a city. None of the Sun City's are that big! Ours currently has about 370 homes sold and will grow to a max of under 3400. And, regarding the other post, no, most of this crowd does NOT eat dinner at 3PM! The average age is about 60; baby boomers who DO like to party! :D

  • A minor rant of sorts: I was the only one in the pool today as I started my workout. About 10 minutes into it I started getting dizzy, stopped, took out my ear plugs and noticed there was a pressure washer running in the pool area. A maintenance guy was pressure washing the bathrooms and locker rooms. But he was safe from the fumes because the hose was fed under the closed door to the bathrooms while the pump was on the other side fumagating the pool enclosure with carbon monoxide and NOx. I asked how long he will be, and he said "all day" (paid by the hour including smoke breaks). I may have been a little rude to the guy but I could have passed out or something alone in the pool. So I go to another pool thinking it's better I should drive the extra 20 minutes and use the blocks to practice my underdeveloped starts. There was a class, swimming lessons, and whatever going on but I got a free lane to myself:). So on the 3rd dive my goggles rolled down my face slicing a gash on the bridge of my nose. It will leave a scar. The worse part was the embarrassment of walking to the locker room with blood all over my face. Wow Steve! It just wasn't your day. I hope tomorrow is much better! :cheerleader:

    7. The :censor: desk receptionist who insists on setting the music to "50's on 5", rather than the 70's or even 60's station the other receptionists set the dial to when they work. Sheesh! The average age in our adult community is 60 which means most of the residents didn't start getting into music until the 60's and 70's. They were too young to remember the 50's! I think the CD player on our Y's stereo is broken with a Tom Petty disc inside, and it's not even one of his good albums.

The one thing working against me is the lack of starting blocks at our pool. So, I have to go to another pool from time to time to practice starts off the blocks. Our pool has blocks but "insurance regulations" prohibit anyone from using them unless they're on a team, and since there's no Masters teams at our Y. . . :bitching:

The guy who bought one of our fast-dry swim towels and complained that it didn't work as advertised...they have Silver which kills bacteria so they don't get musty, but he said his towel was stinky. He sent it back. He was right!! It really stunk. He had not washed it in 6 months. I washed it...what a miracle! (They really do need to be washed occasionally...lol) By the way, thank you Aqua-Geek for your recommendation of our towels on your recent blog. Leslie www.discoverytrekking.com
