I am slow, and when I mean slow, I mean slow. I can do a 26 sec 50 with fins, but without I come in just under 1:20! I think a big part of it is just taking the fins off and doing a lot of kick sets to learn to feel the water better with my feet. I have a good breaststroke kick so I don't think my problem is an overly weak pair of legs, although they could be in better shape. Also, myankles are fairly flexible as I can point my toes and make my feet bend backwards past an even position with my shins. However, I do think that I need to loosen up my ankles when I kick. I feel like I get more out of my kick for those brief moments when I allow my ankles to snap back and forth with my kick. I think I actually need to relax more to kick faster as weird as that sounds.
I suppose the answer to my question is that I simply need to take of the fins and do kick set after kick set until I learn to feel the water better with my feet and become more efficient.
Don't lift your head. Rotate your shoulder keeping your head in line. Turn head slightly to get breath.
Another way is to rotate all the way onto your back to breathe. When you are comfortable with that, reduce the rotation to just far enough to breathe.
congratulations Nancy
Were you getting thigh movement from jiggly skin?
I haven't been able to do test sets but my kick is a lot better this summer. I am guessing my 50y kick is a minute faster and I can keep up with the slower kickers now. Two things I changed:
* Plain old compression shorts (jammer-length UnderArmor) under my Speedo. My kick doesn't hurt any more, and I get a good feel for the water on my feet. Turbulence is greatly reduced. The difference in speed and comfort was immediately noticeable and dramatic. My coach said my technique was OK. I really needed the "motion control" the shorts provide.
* I started bike riding, about 36 miles/week. It is gradually improving both leg strength and kick speed. Last year I was doing 5 miles/week on a stationary bike.
Hurt my rotator cuff, and am coming back slowly. I won't be doing sprints for another month or two. (Yeah, I'm doing the exercises now.) It's frustrating waiting, because I suspect I'm faster, but I don't want to reinjure myself.
23.0 thats excellent
keep training
i know you can go faster
also test your 25 swimming time

This week - 9/6: 23.08
Wasn't expecting improvement as I didn't spend much time in the pool the past couple weeks. I did keep up my spin classes and ran sprints and steps at the track, so I guess my legs got stronger. All of my test times were under 24 seconds, which is also a first.
As you can see above, time has come down 7 seconds in 6 months, which is frankly better than I would have expected.
ok
we don't want reinjury

Did tests and then 3 x 100K (75 EZ/25 AFAP)
25 Y Results 9/21
Dive from side--No board flutter :26
Push--w/Board fluter :24
Dive from side--SDK :24
Dive from side--Swim :15
now you have times to beat
though it's best to be timed with a stop watch
so you'll have times to the tenth
at first you should be able to chop seconds but at some point 10th's might be the only progress you'll make

I was happy that I got 24 on the SDK, which is as fast as kicking on the surface with the board which adds buoancy. I'll need to get a coach or guard to help but the pool was bit busy.
Tee numbers seem to add up though, and go in the order I think they should at least. SDK is fastest.; next is flutter with boad and last is flutter no board. Although the 26 might be a little slower than I should be...
I had to contend with a fellow swimmer.
3 times a week with the 75/25 set Ande? Is that enough?
