I entered the 200 IM at the 2005 Short Course American Championships in Austin 64.233.179.104/search be sure you cheer for the 41 year old guy racing all the whipper snappers here's where you can look at the psyche sheet www.utexas.edu/.../HostedMeets.htm here's where you can follow the results: www.tsc.utexas.edu/.../2005ASCC.html
  • Good luck. I want to swim at USS meets but I rather do it when I can get decent times. I don't want to USS meet when I would do a 2:18 in the 200 Yard IM. When I get my 200 IM and 200 fly under 2:10, then I will look into doing USS meets. Have fun at the meet and do the best that you can do.
  • hey there, I sometimes enter USS meets out of convenience If they are in austin I don't have to travel real far It's fun to race kids half my age or more a few weeks ago I went 2:01.8 in the 200 IM 25 minutes before that I swam a 4:58 500 free here's the splits 25.6 31.8 35.4 28.9 effort wise I took the race out really easy, and tried to finish strong I'm going to be much more aggressive this next week. try to knock a second off the fly and two seconds off the back plus I'm going to taper till the race arrives so we'll see how it goes I feel pretty certain I'll be under 2:00 and beat my 200 IM time from 1995 ande Originally posted by tjrpatt Good luck. I am hoping by next year I can do those kind of times. I quit swimming in 1997 and started again in 2002. I started masters meets in 2004. It is just taking forever for me to get in any kind of shape but I will take it one meet at a time and I will get there eventually. But, it is fun to do swim meets again.
  • the meet information doc www.utexas.edu/.../2005ASCMeetInfo.pdf under Eligibility: states "Swimmers must meet the qualifying time standards." though it was years ago, I've been faster than 1:59.12 in my career, I hope I'll beat the qualifying time. We'll know in a week. Ande my plans are to: rest this coming week and lose a few pounds, hit the race fresh instead of just after a 500 fr shave my arms, wear a fast skin body suit take the race out a little harder and much faster than the last time I swam it. go fast and relaxed on fly dolphin kick further, work the back, breathe a lot, hit a fast Back to *** turn go for it on ***, excellent form, really push it, AIM for 34.9 or better on the *** split then sprint the free with what ever is left. Drive the kick. Originally posted by Fritz The cut is 1:59. They don't require proof of entry time?
  • I was just wondering what kind of a meet the American Short Course Championships are. USA Swimming when it was known as USS Swimming had the last traditional Short Course Yard National Championships in March of 1990. I remember because it was in Nashville and I remember Matt Biondi being interviewed on TV after he won the 100 Yard Free saying he did not agree with the decision to have all future Nationals Long Course. The only years they would not have it SC was after 1972 in Olympic years. So 1976 thru 1988 they had substituted the Short Couse for Long Course. I noticed that this meet is always in Austin Texas so it seems to me its like a local invitational for people who want to swim in a SCY National Championship even though its not considered a National Championship. I know that the NCAA Championships is the only place we get to see SCY swims from the best swimmers except in Olympic years when its held SCM. I think its a good idea but how many of the top swimmers will be there if you have the NCAA meet, US Open, and World Championship Trials all coming up in the next 6 weeks.
  • you may be able to access to the schedule at www.utexas.edu/.../HostedMeets.htm I know michael phelps, Brendan Hansen and Aaron Peirsol will be there. Probably Ian Crocker, Nate Dusing, and Neil Walker as well. I think many college swimmers will be there trying to make last chance time standards ande Originally posted by Frank Thompson I was just wondering what kind of a meet the American Short Course Championships are. • Skip, just because the meet is called “2005 American Short Course Championships” does not make it a USA-S national event. The event is a sanctioned event of the South Texas LSC. It is not recognized as a USA-Swimming championship event. The meet advertises that time can be used for swimmers attempting to make NCAA cuts, so you may see some college swimmers trying to make NCAA cuts. I’m interested to see what kind of turn out the meet has, since it is going up against the USA Swimming Sectionals at Texas A&M, on the same weekend.
  • hi hooked, the 2:01 is yards. in october 2004 I did go 2:15.0 in the 200 short course meter IM and in july 2004 I went 2:18.0 in the 200 long course meter IM the long course race really hurt, I took the fly out too hard and used my legs too much, the *** hurt and free was agonizing ande Originally posted by hooked-on-swimming Ande, are you referring your times to meters(long or short course?) or yards?I am just curious,'cause if those are meters I am really jealous ...
