what do you hope to achieve this year in swimming..?

Due to shoulder tendonitis that just keeps getting worse, my goal is now just to be back to where I was at the beginning of the year swimming-wise by the end of this year and I'm not even sure if that is possible. I'm in a month period of kick only, then if I'm pain free I can add 10 minutes of regular swimming back in each workout twice a week, stay there 2 weeks, add 10 more, stay there 2 weeks, etc. If at any time it feels worse I have to back-step. I really miss swimming. :(

As for my goals - I dunno, getting under 21 in the 50 fr. would be nice. I've trained distance my whole life and love it. But thinking this year I might train more sprint & stroke for a change of pace.
If you can go a sub 21 50 free you are officially no longer a distance swimmer. I'd just be happy to get under 23. I'm a former distance swimmer who can no longer swim distance well, but can't sprint either!:)

Venus - the other way to look at your shoulder is "it's just pain". If you can live with the pain, then your shoulder works just fine. Swim to your hearts content :)
Tendonitis sucks I've had it for 15 yrs. Just keep at the stretch cord exercises, ice it, & take drugs (anti-inflamitories work best, but beer is more fun! ;) )

My goals for 2004:
(1) Don't drown.
(2) Rehab my old injuries.
(2) Don't get new injuries.
(3) Swim, cycle, and do weights, each twice a week.
(4) Maintain my current (rather satisfying) body fat ratio.
(5) Lower my LDL.
(6) Do well in the U.S. Open (not in swimming, but in my another hobby).
Goals for 2004
1) Swim three times a week
2) Do more yoga and pilates to strengthen shoulder and keep my swimming pain free
3) Help motivate other swimmers... and not *** too much in the pool.
4) Increase membership for Utah Masters
5) Loss about 10-15 pounds by December
6) Play the old course at St. Andrews in September while I am in Scottland...(can't wait)

I used (back in college) to be able to go under 21, I'd like to get back there - mainly so I can win the 50 at our alumni meet (no distance events :( ). It's such a nice feeling when a washed up, has been, distance swimmer beats all the current sprinters hehehe.
