My 2004 Goals:
1) Practice in open water before doing the Bay 4.4 mile swim ;-)
2) Avoid injuries (new and old)!!!
3) Start lifting arm weights

4) Swim 4 SCY meets
5) Swim Zones (not just register to do it ;) )
6) Swim at Nationals (Y or USMS)

7) Make a week to week plan for the SCY season
8) More stress on drills and kicking
9) Drag more people into the sport of swimming

10) Share what I have learned (and learn from others too)

I guess it is a 2005 goal now, well, anyways I hope to go under 55sec in 100 meter free short-course by the end of the year, I am very close to be breaking the one-minute mark right now...And I hope to improve in a ll my strokes, too...
Congrats Lindsay. That's a great accomplishment. I hope to swim 100 fly (yards or meters) continuously someday. Like you, I can do 25 of what I think is decent fly - but probably isn't! And I have to do it early in a workout - right after my warmup.

Oh sure, just ruin the whole effect ;)
I haven't got my card with splits on it yet, the time was 3:40.something. :rolleyes: My goal for today was just to finish with no major crash and burn. I have never swum more than 100m of continuous fly before. If it had been videotaped I doubt anyone would have used it as an example of outstanding form, but I was able to keep my hips up, my breathing early and my arm recovery above water the whole way. I plead guilty to having taken an extra breath during the last three turns and breathing on the first stroke after the last couple turns.
I can still remember being ecstatic about swimming a whole length of (what I then thought was decent) fly, a year and a half ago, so today was the realization of a big goal for me. Now I can work on endurance, better turns, and breaking my nasty addiction to oxygen :D
One of my goals is to try to have no asthma attacks. Last year I went tot he ER only one time. It was on DEcember 7th. It was becasue the slowest man at the pool where I swam went into the suana and had a methol scented oilhe was using. I went in, the aroma closed my lungs instantly. It about killed me. I never go into the suana.
What is really sad is that the guy takes 62 to 65 strokes per 25 yards. I watch him to try to understand motion. I can't really figure out how he moves forward.

The first meet I went to with the club I swam the 1500. The woman next to me swam it fly. Boggles my mind.

I did the 200m fly again at a meet in order to get an official time. This time I can say that I kept good form all the way to the end. No extra breaths on the turns, reasonable distance off the walls. Dropped my time by 6.66s to 3:34.22 but more importantly it felt good all the way to the end. I think the biggest difference was that I was breathing every stroke from the start so I wasn't in a state of oxygen deprivation induced panic all the way through the second hundred.
Now I have to figure out whether to try to speed up my breath-per-stroke style or improve my conditioning to the point where I can get through 200m breathing every second stroke.
Much to my surprise there was another guy in my age group swimming the 200 fly! Prior to this there were no 200m fly swims in our age group since they started keeping provincial records. It was probaby good that I didn't notice this before the swim, it would not have helped me stay relaxed, and as it turned out I beat him by a significant margin anyway.
A bigger surprise for me was that a few events latter I took 0.01s off my previous PB in the 50 fly, with a 34.92. I expected to die after having done the 200 but I actually felt strong right to the end. The dying part occurred later, at about the 50m point in the 100 fly :-)
