Have you ever swam a Masters National meet?

I know this is not the national forum spacebar, I want to thank everyone that work & timed & ran the 4 day meet. If you have never been to a National meet, you are missing something from your swimming life! I swam 6 individual events & 2 relays that taught me how to accept my age & speed both going up! The comradeship of my fellow swimmers raised my expectations of my dropping self esteem to help me. Many of the swimmers i did not know but, they cheered me on anyhow!
  • I plan on swimming at the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, NM in June Hey, Smiley, I will be at the National Senior Games as well. What events are you swimming? Age group? I'm in the 55-59, and I will be in the 100 fly, 50 br, and 400 IM on the first day, 200 fly on the second day; and, 200 IM and 200 br on the third day. Three of us from Georgia Masters hope to swim relays if we can find a male backstroker in our age group to complete the mixed medley on the fourth day. I hope to meet you at the pool!
  • Site of the best USMS race I have ever seen. That Men's 45-49 500 FR. You, Chris Stevenson, and who else? It was like a heavy weight boxing match battle royale. You and 3 (or 4?) other guys trading body blows for 450 yards, and then someone just hauled ass the last 50 and won it, but I can't remember who. I just remember the overall race was absolutely crazy! Glad to be 44 and 10 months for that meet...

    Here's my list:
  • I am not a distance swimmer (or even really mid-d) anymore, but all this talk really makes me want to have a good, close 500 race with somebody. 11931
  • 11931 OK, let's find an in-between meet next winter when I'm back in shape and it's on! My goal for next winter/spring (assuming the getting back in shape thing happens quickly enough) is to get my mid-distance endurance back up enough to break 2:10 200 *** and 2:00 200 fly. I'd hope that would translate to a decent 500 at least a little bit! I did a 500 last year for S&Gs at our local LMSC champs and I think I lapped everyone at least once... not very good racing environment to push myself...

I will be swimming the 50, 100, 200 ***, the 500 free, and the 100 & 400 IM in the 60-64 age group. I am not a backstroker so I will be playing catch up in the IM's. I don't know why I entered the 400 IM but I did. Thanks for reaching out and I hope to see you there!

I saw your photo in your album, so I now know who to look for on deck. ;)
  • Glad to be 44 and 10 months for that meet...... and we were glad, too, as your last 50s of a 500 are similarly legendary!
