Speedo Vanquisher Goggles

The Women's Vanquisher is the only goggle I can wear without leaking. I tend to purchase about 4 pair at a time when they are on sale, so I may have had them for awhile before I wear them. Here's the problem: For the third time in the last year or so, the coating has bubbled up on the first wearing, making them unusable. The first time it happened, I was at Nationals where a Speedo rep switched them out as flawed. It's not so convenient when you don't have a Speedo rep nearby. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how have you handled it? Love the goggles, but hate throwing them away after one wearing!
  • What's the alcohol for? My best guess is to make the solution dry faster. The alcohol evaporates faster than water. But if dunking, I'm not sure what the point of the alcohol is.
  • I just bought some goggles the other day and paid $3.00 for them. Some body sent me an email about them. When i opened the package they were identical to the vanquisher goggles but had no name on them. Are you going to start selling those $3.00 goggles on your website?
  • I wear Vanquisher's and Speed Sockets for racing. I'm sure the anti-fog stuff is long worn off my goggles since I've been using the same pairs for a few months. I have a 30 ounce glass by my sink, I soak my goggles in a solution of mostly water with a few drops of baby shampoo about every 3 or 4 days. If I forget I smear whatever shampoo I have in my bag, or if desperate I use the hand soap in the locker room. Any of these concoctions work well for me. WARNING--one season I used this stuff recommended on the forum by a person called Cat Crap. It was the best de-fogger I've ever used. Unfortunately after a couple months use I ended up in the ER with a severe case of abrasions on my eyeballs. It was awful, it took 4 days or so to heal and all I could really do was lay around with my eyes shut. Never use this Cat Crap stuff on the inside of your goggles. I'm probably lucky I got off as easy with it as I did.
  • All I do with my goggles is lick the inside before a set, put them on without rinsing and I never have fogging issues. It's free and reduces the amount of stuff I have in my bag. Some swimmers spit inside them and rub with their fingers as well.
  • I'd be hesitant to rub toothpaste on goggles. It might be too abrasive and scratch them.

I'd be hesitant to rub toothpaste on goggles. It might be too abrasive and scratch them. They're unusable as-is, because the anti-fog coating is so bubbled and cracked, so I figured it was worth a shot (especially since Elaine has had success using it on TYR goggles).
  • Hmm, it's not working for me. Do you have to apply multiple times? I tried once but it didn't seem to do much of anything. I can't remember which brand I used at the time (it was a couple of years ago), but it did remove the coating effectively without scratching my goggles. I don't know what to suggest at this point, Jayhawk. Sorry about that!

I had this issue to. I swapped over to using Arena Cobras and they don't seem to get the issue
  • Or just lick them during practice every 1,000 yards

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how have you handled it? Ditto on the baby shampoo. A smudge on each lens, and a quick shake under water before you put them on, and they're good for eternity. I've had crappy older pairs that have come back to life using this method. The shampoo should go on before you drive to the pool. This gives it some time to bind to the plastic. (btw...before every practice, not every few days) A good rule of thumb is to never ever wipe the inside of the googles with a towel when you first get them. That coating comes right off. For what it's worth, I've always found that the goggles fog after the first week or two, despite the coating.
