Fascinating findings about potential bias at World Championships reported by Swimming World:

In a nutshell, it is suggested there was a current in the pool that gave some lanes an unfair advantage in the 50s. Maybe some end lanes are not so bad after all ;)
This should make for scintillating conversations in our Records and Tabulations meeting. Will we need to get Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler results along with pool length certification before results will be counted?

Nah, nothing so sophisticated. Just put a rubber ducky at the end of each lane and see where it goes. ;)

I thought the 1500 splits were the most interesting. Of course, one is a small sample size.
Or just eliminate 50s :bolt:
As someone commented, though, it could potentially factor into a race of any length. Imagine in a 100. I think I'd rather 'fight' the current on the first 50 rather than the second.
While the difference between lane 4 and 5 may not be much it is interesting that in the Womens 50 BR Meilutyte broke the WR in semis and swam just a little slower in the finals in lane 4,while Efimova was a little faster in the finals in lane 5 to win by .07 sec.The difference in current between lanes 4 and 5 is probably not much, but it might be the difference between 1st and 2nd.

Yeah, definitely. I just don't like 50s. :D The 1500 splits in the article are more interesting to me.
