  • 50 back loaded, others did not. From what I could tell from that angle, more rotation to allow a deeper catch and pull. I think keep you head back a bit more and hips up and a bit less knees and feet coming out of the water. Work on your turns and kickouts.
  • Great job! Now you've got some times to beat for the next meet. Bet you can't wait! Here's my 2cents (I'm definitely no coach or stroke expert): 50 Backstroke: down in :18, back in :21 for :39s total. Start looked good and you even got a couple underwater kicks in. Obvious thing here is to try not to hit the lane lines after your turn :). 50 Breaststroke: down in :16, back in :20 for :36 total. You seem to have a flat style breaststroke so I'm not sure if my experience w/ breaststroke is going to help much. You should be able to get past mid-pool off a dive. Best I can tell, you were coming up at 8-10 yards. Work on a tight streamline and getting your one dolphin kick in. Was it fun? Sounded like you had a great cheering squad. Throw in a little fly and I'll bet you'd have a pretty good 100 IM.
  • I clicked on the "share" on your video to get this link. And, it works! :D http://youtu.be/2Yq6bGzsgII P.S. I see my directions worked on editing your signature! :agree:
  • One comment on your 50 ***. At the turn be sure not to turn your entire body at the wall. Touch, drop an arm, pivot your feet and then push off. Also, in case you weren't aware, it's not against the rules anymore for your head to go underwater in breaststroke. Your stroke definitely looks you learned it back in the days when your head couldn't go under.
  • I was watching your back as I was getting ready to swim the next heat. I did notice your legs making alot of splash and could see your knees. Try to keep you knees from breaking the water suface(Less bending of the knee) and your toes should be just breaking the surface(make boiling water with your feet. ) For your turn, start a little earlier and practice, practice, practice. Good luck with everything and I'll see you at State.
  • Yeah I noticed my *** I am WAY on top of the water... I just need to be taught all over again how to go under like they do now! I now realize why people practice so much... its all about muscle memory and remembering this...a nd that... and breathe here... kick here pull here...Yes, there's a lot of muscle memory we didn't get in HS/College. I like to do a lot of 2 kick/1 pull breaststroke. This forces you to dive under and get a feel for gliding. It also helps to see how few strokes you can take to do one length of breaststroke. Don't worry about speed, just glide and get everything of each stroke. I did have a great time... I was gassed after each one which was surprising... but again I'm way out of shape and looking around there weren't a lot of 6'1 250 lb guys swimming!! I now know why they are all so thin!Amazing how much fun can be packed into 30 seconds. Let us know how future meets turn out.
  • First kudos for putting vids out here for critique! I've got two thoughts, first easy, second more time intensive. First - streamline, on the start and the turn. elbows locked, biceps over ears thumb on top locked to the bottom. It's most obvious on the turn... when your feet touch the wall that position should ready. I wasn't able to upload an image for some reason, but here is a link to the screenshot. Get that streamline down and knock off 2 seconds easy. Second - shoulder rotation. You are strong and you are squaring your shoulders and powering through the water (while I am probably not as strong, I swim the same way). Work on getting those shoulders rotated and fully grab that water. Tall order, but lots of fun learning! Hope this helps! Chris

HAHA! I know... if you watch close you can see me cussing as I come out of my turn on the back! Something like.. OH SH*TTTT... and I was gagging the rest of the way (which never happens when I bk in practice...) oh well!!! Yeah I noticed my *** I am WAY on top of the water... I just need to be taught all over again how to go under like they do now! I now realize why people practice so much... its all about muscle memory and remembering this...a nd that... and breathe here... kick here pull here... I honestly feel like I remember getting set.... then turning... then hitting the wall to end.... everything else is a blur!!! I did have a great time... I was gassed after each one which was surprising... but again I'm way out of shape and looking around there weren't a lot of 6'1 250 lb guys swimming!! I now know why they are all so thin! Thanks for the review!

Oh I totally learned back in the early 80's... also the last time I swam in a meet! 9 y/o. I learned from this site that you can go under but its a hard habit for me to break at the moment! I think I could really drop some time if I learned to do that... considering I'm not sure anyone else was doing the stroke like I was!!! I will work on those turns!
