How many laps (in this pool) is a mile?

Check out my blog post here for a photo of the pool: elaineiakstravels.wordpress.com/.../ :afraid: :dunno: :lmao:
  • A lot! Glad you were able to keep on swimming! :woot:
  • That little cottage pool looks to be 4-5 yards, with 1760 yards/mile and at approximately 10 yards per lap, that is certainly too many laps! Tethered swimming would be a possibility. Yes, the Sanibel Rec Center is an excellent facility. Although I live closer to Sanibel, than Estero, I swim at FCGU Aquatic Center for LCM and the bridge to Sanibel has a significant toll. Glad to read you are having a good trip!
  • ...they close the pool whenever the air temperature drops below 60 degrees. Some mornings I'd get there when they open, and have to wait an hour or so for the temperature to climb out of the upper fifties for the all-OK. Meanwhile steam coming off the still and lonely pool... Yes, I never deciphered the secret formula for pool closure at the Fort Myers Aquatic Center, while they are consistent with lightning, the 60 degree rule is unevenly applied as I have been doing laps there when the temp is 54-56, and sometimes restricted access when the temp is 62-64 on a beautiful sunny morning! On the other hand, FCGU Aquatic is almost like an outdoor California pool, they will be open for public lap swimming at 8am even when the temp is 48. Mostly likely due to the active collegiate swimming program training schedule.
  • Wow, they don't ever do that at our pool. When it's really cold the kickboards freeze together in the gutter! I was surprised at first by this cold weather policy in Lee County, FL. One of the more memorable cold swimming moments for me was a January 5:00 AM practice in Stockton, CA where we were all standing around shivering in our parkas waiting for the Coach to open the pool gate where we could not even see the pool because of the steam (covers had just been pulled off by the staff). Someone said it was 29 degrees outside. All I know is that we would run from the heated trailer and jump in our lane ASAP!
  • A lot! Glad you were able to keep on swimming! :woot: Thanks, rx! Fortunately, my sternoclavicular joint injury turned out to me quite minor, relatively speaking. If it had been a full dislocation, I would have been looking at six weeks recovery. :afraid:But, I think the muscles were more affected than the ligament, so I was only out of the water for one week. Today was my third day back in and I am almost 100%.:bliss:But, it was a wake up call, for sure, and I will be making an appointment with a PT upon my return! :agree:
  • The pool at Sanibel Rec Center is great. You can get weekly/monthly passes and that includes tennis, b-ball gym, weight and cardio room, classes, etc. One thing I could never figure is that they close the pool whenever the air temperature drops below 60 degrees. Some mornings I'd get there when they open, and have to wait an hour or so for the temperature to climb out of the upper fifties for the all-OK. Meanwhile steam coming off the still and lonely pool... Yeah, I don't get that either. I heard the noodler instructor make that announcement and I was baffled. Perhaps the lifeguards won't sit out there if the temp. drops below 60. :D I have had three workouts there, now, and it has been great. Today, there were 32 ( :afraid: ) noodlers in the pool and I didn't hear one of them complain about me "splashing" in the swim lane! Nor, did I get kicked out during their class. :D How was St. George's? I hope you two had a great time! Please wish her my best; she filled me in on the details. :bighug:

Ahahaha. Not sure you'd be doing any actual swimming. A decent flip turn alone should get you from one side of the pool to the next.
