With a short work week and having eaten too much junk over Christmas its bugging me. SO...I thought that maybe this week I'd just do 100 x 100 outta the blue maybe on Wednesday AM or Thursday AM. I train alone so it will put me to the test just to see if I can focus for 120-180 minutes and stick to it.
So I'm looking for some advice on how to break them up. Obviously the first 10-20 will be warm-up, build at most. So I'm thinking something like this....feel free to add/suggest more. I'm just pulling this out of my ass.
1-10 Warm-up @ 2:00
11-20 Kick @ 2:00
21-30 Pull @ 1:30
31-40 Free @ 1:20 (hold 1:10's)
41-50 IM @ 1:45
5-10 Minute Food/Drink Break
51-60 Kick w/ Fins @ 1:40
61-70 Odds: Stroke @ 1:40 Evens: Drill @ 1:40
71-80 Pull w/ Paddles & Snorkel
81-90 IM Order/Free by 25's @ 1:45
and to finish it off:
91-100 Hold Best Avg. @ 1:30

did 100x100 on 1:30 today.... straight through 95 and swam the last 500 easy
did 100x100 on 1:30 today.... straight through 95 and swam the last 500 easy
I think I could do that, but its just very boring and monotonous....especially on my own.
yes... monotonous is my middle name
stay tuned for my b-day set of 180x 25 fly on :25 coming mid february.
That was my previous swim life in HS and college. I like to mix it up a bit now until I get into the OW season.
Not a chance on this planet I do that fly set, even with fins. Not me, not ever, no way! :bolt:
Sheez... seems like EVERYONE is doing this set for New Year's!
I guess we are too since its a long time tradition around these parts.
But I have volunteered to coach!
I like the mix of 100s better than 100 straight thru freestyle.
But we are offering the same 1:30 freestyle option. Swimmers who cannot make 100s on 1:30 are swimming 75s or 50s. Then the team all swims together which is so much more FUN!
I'm hoping some of the local stroke specialty swimmers in the area come forward with a great set for us to do in the first week of the New Year.
My new club (Conejo Valley) even runs 7 workouts in an outdoor 50 meter LC pool set-up! Visit to SoCal anyone?
Happy New Year!
here's something that came out in
South Texas News - Sun, Dec 27, 2009
Ring in the New-year with 110 100s – Austin, TX
Our New Year's Day swim will be offered at
4-8p 12/31 and
9a-1p on 1/1.
The pool is at Bee Caves Road and Patterson Lane.
Guest fee is $4.
We would be happy to have guests join our swim.
We'll be in an 8 lane, outdoor and heated pool.
The format is essentially:
- Everyone starts at the same time
- Each swimmer selects his/her own interval which can be varied
- Swimmers may use equipment (fins, snorkels, kick board, pull buoy, paddles, etc.) – just no motors!
- Each swimmer counts their own 100's and may have someone on the deck counting for them
- The goal is to swim 110 x 100's (last year we did 109).
Swimmers may stop at any time but everyone will stop at 4 hours.
Last year we had a dozen swimmers participate ranging from non-competitive, lap swimmers to those nationally ranked. It was fun, rewarding and a great way to start out the new year.

So here is what I have planned for tomorrow AM:
December 31, 2009
100 x 100
-10 @ 2:00 warm-up 20 min
-10 @ 2:00 kick 20 min
-10 @ 1:25 Pull (Buoy & Paddles) 14 min 20 sec
-10 @ 1:30 Free 15 min
-10 (odds @ 1:30, evens @ 1:15) 13 min 45 sec
5-10 Minute Break for Drinks & Food (9 min)
-10 @ 1:30 Free 15 min
-10 @ 1:40 Kick w/ fins 16 min 40 sec
-10 @ 1:45 IM 17 min 30 sec
-10 @ 1:25 Pull (Paddles & Snorkel) 14 min 10 sec
-10 (odds Free/Bk by 25’s @ 1:40, evens @ 1:15) 14 min 35 sec
10,000 SCY 2 hr 50 min
So I made it! 2 hrs and 45 min (including a 200 warmdown). I didn't take my scheduled break as I felt good and didn't want to cool down at that point. On 21-60 I pretty much held 1:07-1:10's. I got a bit tired after those, but felt strong the whole way, had good turns, and good streamlines throughout. Ended up finishing with a 1:06 on the last 100.
The only real pain I have afterwards is a nice chaff mark on the inside of my right thigh where my squard Speedo endurance rode up a bit too much. I guess I need to get a jammer.
Looking back I think it would be a good challenge to do them all on 1:25 or 1:20.....that would give me anywhere from 10-15 seconds rest at most if you can maintain it throughout.
Good Job! I wish I was that fast. Mine was more of a 50x100@1:40 holding between 1:30-1:32. Then when the kids came in they did 100x50@1:00 and I did the first 50 of those with fins on and switched up the strokes did 20 as kick, 10 fly, 10 back and 10 more kick.
