Well, that's a bit of a shame...

The coached workouts threads seem to be restricted to actual USMS members. Fair enough, I guess, but they've always been the main (possibly only) reason I visited the site. I got a lot of my workouts (mainly "Distance Free") courtesy of Chris Layton and Scott Hofteizer over the last 2 years or so, and tips from the other coaches. Thanks for making that possible, chaps!
  • Although I agree that $40 is an awesome price for what you get. It's another fee. Nobody likes that kind of change. Now theres, USS, USAT, team fees, race fees, pool fees, equipment fees, travel fees. Looks like a little less beer this month. Oh well. Probably better off in the long run. Life is about choice. If you think your return on a $40 investment in USMS is a poor one, then that's your choice.
  • So USMS registered members should be paying for something while non-USMS members receive it for free? The reason I ask is that those written workouts are funded out of USMS membership fees (a small portion of the fee but still).

Awww quit complaining. $40 is cheap for what you get. If ya'll don't want to pay, then go study some sports training books and develop your own.

Life is about choice. If you think your return on a $40 investment in USMS is a poor one, then that's your choice. It's not poor at all. I think it's a great ROI. It's just another cost. I'll pay it like all the others. I'm just supporting the original post. I just feel by taking all the workouts away from the non USMS members is sending a disappointing message. :afraid:

I understand why it's for USMS members only. It's just a bummer that non members now have to pay. Either way I have to pay this year to compete but, others are just out there swimming wanting some guidance which is where I was last year. Also being that this is a public forum one may think that all of it should be public. I think the forum is a wonderful resource, it was just a bit shocking to see it segregated now.
  • While I can understand the disappointment, an investment of approximately $40 for a year's worth of workouts seems to be quite a bargain to me. Not to mention a variety of discounts, a magazine subscription, etc.

Hi, I also think that it is a pity that the workouts have been restricted to members only. A lot of Masters are training by themselves at times when it suits them between the daily obligations and I'm sue the workouts have been of help or even an inspiration to them. I write workouts (on a honorary basis:)) for one of the biggest and most successful Masters Club in Germany and I have enjoyed reading and comparing the US workouts sometimes. My team doesn't get any financial help- on the contrary: we help and support the young swimmers. I post my workouts to interested people to get them training and enjoy swimming or to prepare for big championships. I think that is what Masters swimming is all about.:bliss:
  • Everybody wants something for nothing. When I was more in to triathlons, I paid 50 dollars a month for a cook book online program... People come up to me and ask me about their bowel movements, their knee pain, their hallucinations, whatever...like 12 years of higher education and 15 years of emergency medicine experience should just come free... Coaches, people behind websites, etc. have to make a living too. Suck it up and pay the 40 bucks.:bitching:
