In addition to regular pool workouts (5/week), my coach has me doing 4 weekly dryland sessions - 25 minutes each, days 1+3 abs+skip rope, days 2+4 arms+legs (medicine ball/stretch cord work). I'm training for middle distance stroke events (2fly/4im).
im 13:woot: i have 1 hr 15 min practices daily, mornings and afternoons, avg 3500 yards. Wednesday, 1 hr 15 min practice in morning, 1 hr dryland and 1 hr 30min practice in afternoon :groovy: avg 5100 yards swum on wednesdays :weightlifter:. Im doin about 33100 yards per week:woot:
More important then the bulk versus long muscles is power versus strength. Power is how much you can lift once. Strength is how much you can lift over a give period of time. Strength is more useable muscle in everyday activities to include swimming.
I used to lift weights towards the "Strength" way, it helps, but actually I think the "power" way is even more helpful...mostly for sprint
i weight lift, i do an hour of intense workout, like one minute rests between sets, 5 minute rests between exercises, average weight with more reps. usually i do more leg ang back exercises and once in awhile some chest and shoulder exercises.
i run once or twice a week, 2k-4k, depends on my work sched and on the weather too.
everyday handstand push-ups and abs when i'm at work.
