So we have a "swim rant" thread, but I wanted to post my "swim happy" moment today, probably brought on by being out of the water for over a week.
Pool reopened after maintenance + clear, fresh perfect temp water + 6 lap lanes between 4 lap swimmers = 4200yd :bliss:
That's right. YOU did it, no one else did. What separates you from other people in your state and age group is that you had the gumption to show up and swim, and that's champion-like behavior at any level.
Congratulations, Elainiak!
Thanks, Spell! Very cool of you to say and I appreciate it! :)
You didn't just fall into it.You have been working hard in the pool ,with weights , and on technique. You earned it.:bliss::banana::bouncing::cheerleader::bow:
What, no :party2: :thewave: :ohyeah:???
Seriously, K.F., thanks!

While my times are nothing really to write home about, I can now proudly say that as of last weekend: I'm swimming the same/better times in all four strokes in meters as I was in yards a year ago. The 3 hour meet allowed me to get in 5 individual events (50 fly, 200 back, 200 free, 200 IM, and 100 IM) as well as 2 relays (50 back & 50 free). Of those 7 events I swam 4 PRs including my 8 second-in-one-month drop PR in the 200 IM.
So while this may look like gloating (it totally is) - I wasn't really sure where else to post my little source of pride. :)
Great news but please tell us some of your swim times.

Yesterday I visited the gym and found that they no longer offer Noodle Class! O Frabjous Day!!
I've avoided evening swims after Noodle Class since the participants linger chatting in the lanes, pool water was cloudy and the smell of shampoo/cologne was overwhelming. The pool was closed for lap swimmers during the class -- a very desirable timeslot -- right when I would normally be riding my bicycle and would want a foul weather alternate activity.
The last time I was at the gym during noodle class, there were about 50 participants who did not appear to be capable of more strenuous activity. Elderly, disabled/rehabbing injury, out of shape/overweight. I don't want to disrespect them, they were getting some benefit from the class. I got the impression that participation dwindled, so I wonder if the class will be offered again in the New Year's Resolution rush.

Inviting a very fit 20 something / tennis and badminton player/ novice triathlete to one of our 2 hour masters sessions
who went home afterwards and slept for 11 hours:snore:
on a saturday night .....:D
Today, I surpassed my (third) revised GTD goal and went over 350 miles. Since my total miles in 2010 were 262, I set a goal for 275 miles for this year. After making that, I revised it to 300 miles. Well, at that point, King Frog encouraged me to revise it, again, to 350 miles. And, I went over it with my 3,000 yard sprint workout, today. :bliss:
Another Swim Happy: My 25yd backstroke sprint is (finally) faster than my breaststroke. At this point, my fly :cane:, backstroke :cane:, and breaststroke are all at :20.
I haven't had much to swim happy about the past year or two. I've been struggling to heal/adapt to/work around a couple shoulder issues. I didn't pass the 50-mile GTD milestone until August.
Anyway, after taking off essentially April through mid-August, I got back in the pool at the local YMCA, just to do what I could. Lots of kicking, some drills, very little swimming or pulling. I concluded I should be able to make the 100-mile GTD goal by the end of the year. It will be close.
Yesterday I swam a reasonable set (8x50, 4x75, 2x100, 1x200), all backstroke. (At the moment, backstroke is the stroke which isn't causing problems.) Today my shoulders feel good.
That's my "swim happy" story and I'm stickin' to it. :D
