I'm new to this site and joined USMS last week. It's been >30 years since I last competed. I've used the site to look at sample workouts. My question is: Why do most workouts include sets using fins? I assume you could do more distance in shorter times, but not sure what the benefit is. Can anyone give me some insight?
Fins are supplemental equipment occasionally used within conditioning sets. I personally find fins very useful for performing stroke improving drills. They also allow swimming at race pace to help one minimize speed induced drag
What Steve said ^^^. Plus, I like to use them on occasion when I've been working my arms/shoulders a lot and want to focus more on legs. It takes some of the strain off the shoulders while you still can get speed.
There are Sooooooooo many threads about this topic, that I just can't see my way clear to weigh in yet again! Suffice to say, some like 'em, and some don't! :worms:
