Canadian Masters Swimming Championships 2011

The next Canadian Masters Swimming Championships will be held 5/20/2011 to 5/23/2011 in Montreal. I believe it will be SCM. Unfortunately the Masters Swimming Canada site has very little information on the meet as yet. I would like to correspond with someone who knows more details, including venue, which events are on which dates, event order, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!
  • Ditto. Last night I put together a very speculative but potentially freaking awesome meet schedule for the fall-winter-spring leading up to Omaha LCM Nats. All of these are within reasonable driving distance (except Omaha, which I'm fine with). If only half of this schedule actually happens, I'll be happy. Notice that only one of these is SCY. October:Multnomah SCM, Vancouver SCM, Kelowna SCM November: Whidbey Island SCM?, Nanaimo SCM? Fall sometime: NW SCM Zones in Oregon somewhere (see page 11) January: Anacortes SCM? February: Vancouver SCM? March: Coeur d'Alene SCM?, Victoria LCM? April: PNA Championships SCY? (Federal Way) May: Hood River SCM?, CMSC2012 LCM (Kelowna) June: LCM Meet Somewhere? (Tacoma in 2008, T-Hills in 2009 & 2010, and Corvallis in 2011) July: Omaha LCM Nats The ones highlighted in RED above I will probably be doing as well. :) This fall will be the end of my 30-34 run in the SCM so I might as well make the best of it. I'll probably be doing: September: Tri Cities: TBD (SCY or LCM) is an outdoor meet still in the works... October: MAC SCM, and Spokane SCY November: Whidbey Island SCM (1500 here) or NW SCM Zone meet (I saw that the Tualitan Hills team was going to host it in November I believe) December: USA-S meet SCY in Wenatchee January: Wenatchee SCY February: Briggs Y SCY??? This is my 1650 meet each year :) March: Coeur d'Alene SCM & IW Champs Meet SCY April: PNA Champs SCY (may skip it) for: May: Canadian Masters Beat Down :D LCM Kelowna (about 4 1/2 hours north from here) Summer 2012: 2 USA-S LCM meets in Wenatchee
  • The swimming.ca website mentioned they were bidding for it. That would be awesome. A driveable FINA Masters champs. Sounds interesting. Hopefully, it won't be as crowded as Stanford was. A friend of mine said that there was insane.
  • Hopefully, it won't be as crowded as Stanford was. Well, unless they have a two pool option, I fear it would be quite crowded. I was at Stanford for one day and found it fine ... loads of people, but the facility at Stanford is so big and awesome (both pools and surrounding grounds) that it was fine. I fear that a North American Worlds would be VERY crowded unless there's a facility roughly the equivalent of Stanford. They just had 1,100+ people at the Canadian Masters Nationals; I would imagine Worlds would attract a huge number of Americans in addition to all the people from outside of North America who often travel. I'll still go if it's in Montreal, but set my expectations appropriately.
  • Well, unless they have a two pool option, I fear it would be quite crowded ... Here's a guess: Of course not knowing the content of the bid, I looked for two co-located 50 meter pools in Montreal. I found a pair at Parc Jean Drapeau (link is to a satellite image of the pools). There's a Metro station essentially on-site, just a few meters away from the pools. "The 2005 World Aquatics Championships or the XI FINA World Championships were held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from July 16 to July 31, 2005. They took place in Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen's Island." From www.parcjeandrapeau.com/cultural_historical_heritage.html XIth FINA World Aquatic Championships 2005 From July 16 – 31, 2005 the FINA World Aquatic Championships came to North America for the first time. The best aquatic athletes representing 160 countries came to Montreal to compete in the various disciplines: water polo, synchronized swimming, swimming, and diving. The Complexe aquatique de l'île Sainte-Hélène underwent major renovations for the Championships, including the restoration of the Pavilion des Baigneurs and the construction of three new swimming pools built using an innovative concept of hybrid pools. Clearly they can handle it.
  • Hopefully, it won't be as crowded as Stanford was. A friend of mine said that there was insane. I didn't think it was insane at all. As Patrick said, the facility at Stanford could easily handle the number of swimmers. The Stanford meet was great. Gothenburg, on the other hand was a bit of a zoo. The outdoor pool was fine, but the indoor pool (Valhalla) was very crowded. Of course Gothenburg also had the downside of not having two 50 meter pools at the same complex. I had a great time in Sweden, but the pool setup definitely wasn't optimal. Kelowna would be a great place for a meet, but I wonder if since they're going to cap it at 600 swimmers they will give precedence to Canadians?
  • The 2012 Canadian Nationals will be in Kelowna: okmasters.com/.../provincials-2011-a-great-success They do have a LCM pool but I don't know if they can host a LCM meet as they don't seem to have a proper warmup area. http://www.h2okelowna.com/Well, it'd sure be a sell to get my family to come along if they could be riding the waverider and playing on the slides while I'm racing! Arthur - if/when you see more info on this, we'd appreciate it if you post it to the Events Forum.

The 2012 Canadian Nationals will be in Kelowna: okmasters.com/.../provincials-2011-a-great-success Mayor Shepherd also announced the 2012 Canadian Masters Swimming Championships to be held in Kelowna in May next year. This national event will be capped at 600 swimmers and will again be hosted by OMSC, in association with Wine Country Masters and Westside Thunder Masters Swim Club. They do have a LCM pool but I don't know if they can host a LCM meet as they don't seem to have a proper warmup area. http://www.h2okelowna.com/
