Thanks Ahelee. :) Backstokers and breaststrokers seem to get little respect. ...maybe because they're both considered a bit quirky compared to fly and free?

Lack of readership shouldn't discourage anyone from blogging. They're a great way to keep track of progress, and can be much easier than the flog section which has a very small window for typing in entries. While I use the FLOG for my actual workouts and times, I then blog about my thoughts during the workout and mention some highlights of the practice. I have no idea if anyone is that interested in how much stuff some guy brings to the pool with him, or the strange looks I get from those skinny-minny gym rats, but hey it gets it out of my system and stops me boring my husband about it all! (ahem....actually probably no-one is interested as I don't get many readers:blush:)

They're a great way to keep track of progress, and can be much easier than the flog section which has a very small window for typing in entries. My blog is by far the most boring in the lot. And it was never intended to attract any interest...unless people enjoy hearing about 3,000 yards of backstroke and how many seagulls were spotted through the skylights on a given day. Well, I use the flog as well as an old-school paper log. Blogging takes time, and if no one's interested, then, for me, it's not worth it... YMMV.

I am trying to blog and my entries keep getting dropped into uncategorized. I made a work out category but never saw an option to select it for my newest blog and I don't see any option to move it after the fact. So if anyone could share where this option is hiding I would appreciate it, preferably before I spend another 30 minutes going through the menu's. Thanks
  • Well Quick, I like your pictures. :) And I support backstrokers. Your "simple" but challenging sets are right on the mark. I forget to read the blogs lots of days... So I subscribe to those I track for news and workouts most. They drop right into my email like a big hello!

I believe JimRude used to blog as well- there may be some of his old entries available. He's quite the breaststroker/breastroker (sorry... I can't even spell it). Gracias. I don't blog anymore because I don't think anyone was reading it (everyone probably bought into Fort's "evil stroke" comments, or more likely it was too boring). But I do meticulously log all of my workouts and meets, so if anyone wants my thoughts, just let me know.

  • My blog is done mostly for me. I get to congratulate myself on hard work done, flagellate myself on crappy workouts, and sympathize with myself when I am demoralized and lonely. I am always shocked when someone reads my blog & makes a comment - I wish I was funny like Vlog the Inhaler, but alas, I do not have that creative streak! I also am not a formidable competitor - fraid I never really was, so it's hard to imagine my comments inspiring others. I think I just like to get my words on "paper" & I hope that in a year or so, I can look back & see that I am keeping faster intervals than I was when I started. I've certainly made some changes in the few months since my baby went off to college (sob!) such as putting myself into the pool much more frequently, and signing up for 500 miles on the stupid GTD (what WAS I thinking?), and last but not least, committing to myself at least, and joining the local USAS team to have someone push me during my practices. I feel less lonely when I read the blogs and the forum comments - because I feel like you guys are my friends even though we've never even met!! How I wish I had a masters team with friends to trash talk with & go to meets with! You guys will have to suffice. :agree:
  • Well, I use the flog as well as an old-school paper log. I did paper logs of my workouts through high school. When I get a Mac in college (no hard drive!), I switched to putting my workouts on disk. I really wish I had somehow maintained and transferred those college workouts into new technology over the years, but they are lost forever. I blog today for the same reasons I've always written down workouts -- my memory sucks and I want to go back and learn from what I did. Later this summer, I plan to scare myself and pull some of my teenaged workout logs out of storage and see ... if they are as sick as I remember them (my coach was a big fan of animal lanes, three-a-day workouts in the summer, etc.) how much I'd need to modify them to do one of them (more like part of one) now

I would think that folks would be interested in any elite masters' training logs from their youths- especially those who are successful in one's hallowed events. Find someone who is good at your favorite event (or one you would like to improve in), and ask questions. Take advantage of the talent here.
