Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps?
If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...
anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"?
How could he be so careless?

He thought his hand was growing? What kind of stuff was on that coffee table?
Bill! Michael needs your professional help - Now the SC sheriff is arresting people and "building a case" criminally against him - for what? Since when is a picture possession of either the drug or the paraphernalia? Those arrested say they are aggressively questioned about nothing but Michael. How is this treating every citizen equally under the law? Michael needs someone to tell him to Stop Talking. This is getting very out of proportion.
They still don't have a criminal case for ANY thing based on a photo, unless Phelps keeps talking they have nothing. Maybe still nothing even if he keeps talking. Where is his lawyer? Its just outta hand.
However companies should drop all of their endorsement contracts with Phelps (and other athletes as well) on the simple grounds that endorsements are a huge waste of money. I'm not going to be urged to buy anything just because a product (especially Speedo and their hyper inflated priced tech suits) has an athlete's endorsement.
The reality is that the money paid out in endorsements just drives up the cost without adding any value to the product. :2cents:

You've made this ridiculous assertion before and it is a lie of epic proportion, along with your assertion you've been in a tech suit.
Do you really think companies dole out millions for endorsements if there is nothing in return? Have you ever read how much money MJ and Tiger have brought into Nike? Have you ever bothered to look at ratings for golf events without Tiger versus those with Tiger, how about NBA games with Lebron versus without.
I've read estimates that sales of Jordan merchandise have generated over $3 billion for Nike. Nike was struggling before Jordan.
Please stop spouting as fact what you know nothing about.
It really doesn't matter to me whether Phelps got caught on camera taking a hit from a bong and that won't change my admiration for him.

The SC sheriff is trying to make a name for himself by trying to prosecute Phelps for a basically trivial offense.
There are probably a few unsolved murders in SC that could use some attention from the sheriff's department.
However, that's not a high profile and sexy issue as going after an Olympic athlete. :bitching:
