Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps? If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics... anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"? How could he be so careless?
  • Come on, Speedo didn't sign him because he is a roll model - they signed him because he swims fast. And kids don't want to buy the latest LZR because Michael Phelps is a good person, they buy it because they see what Phelps was able to accomplish using that suit. There are excuses and then their is perspective. He tried pot - there is no indication he is a "pot head" or he most likely would have tested as such on one of his many drug tests. I believe someone tried to compare him the Michael Vick - are you kidding me? This would barely constitute a misdemeanor charge, assuming he was not carrying around a one pound sack of grass in his back pocket. I certainly didn't compare him to Michael Vick. I used Vick as an example of one person who had the world, and he continued to engage in illegal (and morally reprehensible) activities despite his knowledge of the consequences for getting caught! Was smoking pot on the same wavelength as fighting dogs? No. But you can bet that McDonalds didn't sponsor him for only his speed. They sponsored him as a healthy and health conscious person. I'm pretty sure that a guy smoking a bong isn't the health conscious image they had in mind!
  • time to mellow out folks and quit judging the phelpster. I actually agree with this. I'll turn my judgment to hipster doofuses who ride Vespas, drink hoppy micro brews, and watch independent foreign documentaries.

Doubt he will be appearing on the front of kids' cereal boxes now.

I'm pretty sure that a guy smoking a bong isn't the health conscious image they had in mind! And yet, as between the two, I'd wager that weekly pot-smoking is less harmful to health than weekly meals at McDonalds.

At least he owned up to it... As opposed to what, claiming that it wasn't him in the photo? Anyway, the only thing he "owned up to" was a vague reference to "regrettable" behavior. He read a prepared statement from one of his agents/advisors. Very impressive indeed.

Who would want to lace pot? I can think of a number of different organizations that would love nothing better than to see some of our young college kids drop dead. Does al-Qaeda ring a bell to you? How many hands does this stuff pass through before it gets to the person using it? Too easy to taint. The only reason to legalize it is because of what I mention above. The widespread use by college kids makes it an attractive target for terrorists. If it was legalized, it could at least be inspected. Pot will neve be legalized for the same reasons our major cities don't have a red light district like Amsterdam. OMG. Are you for real?!

He's 23 years old and he made a mistake. If you've never made a mistake, then start throwing stones, if you have, you have no reason to judge. I dont care if he's a public figure, he's still human. And as long as its not performance enhancing and endangering other people, well let them live their lives. At least he's not pulling guns at clubs like a certain New York Giants receiver.
  • I only have one question - Was the weed any good?

At least he's not pulling guns at clubs like a certain New York Giants receiver. Well that certainly is setting the bar high.
  • How much will this hurt his underwater SDK?
