Ande- I appreciate the observations, but those aren't any of my times :)
I didn't swim the 100 at Nationals (only ever going out in a 400IM), and I went 2:32 in the 200 fly.
PS The last time I swam a 100 fly, I split 31-33 going 104 low.

A quick call out to a teammate of ours here in AZ that we are extremally proud of. Jose grew up plaing soccer and never swam a lap in his life until last September. After watching the Olympics he was so motivated to learn that he showed up at BEST and went after with more energy and enthusiasm than you can imagine...and after 9 months we have all been stunned at his success:
Event 23 Men 25-29 50 Yard Freestyle
27 Ponce, Jose 26 ARIZ 23.63 23.42
Event 41 Men 25-29 100 Yard Freestyle
21 Ponce, Jose 26 ARIZ 53.62 51.44
24.20 51.44 (27.24)
* I'm guessing this might actually be the one example of a "Late Bloomer" that even Ion can't argue with!

I'm sure he could come up with something to explain it :)
Seriously, though, this is very impressive.

Wow, i'm wondering how non-swimmer could get so fast in 9 months plus get water feeling well. Often, i observed that most non-swimmers don't have specific water feeling, and it comes with years of swimming.
I just have to say, he is talented sportsmen, who managed to be really fast compared with my times on those events.
Is there any secrets that we could use?:)
Adding to the "Piano Chat"
Ande wrote a "SAW YOUR SPLITS" message to me after my Regional Champs 200 Free.
Assume you going for a 100 split.
If not, you went out too fast.
I blamed it on the B70 forcing me out of control like a cork.
Definitely saw some of that in Clovis - and now I understand it after going through it at Regionals.
We talked my good friend Barbara Dunbar into getting a B70 at the meet. Talk about old school... I never thought I could convince HER to get into a tech-suit!
But when she actually agreed, bought it and walked up to me encased in the new B70, I realized I had about 10 minutes to seriously talk to her about keeping her stroke reigned in on the 1st 50 of her potential NR 100 Fly.
She totally nailed it - the woman is the Queen of control!!
And she swam great the entire meet.
In fact - I came out on her heels on the ramp at the open water swim :)
Nice thanks... but still I was totally proud of her!

It's heartening to hear that A) somebody really good did this, and B) it is actually a legitimate excuse.
When I swam the 100 free in the B70, I felt so smooth that I went out faster on the first 50 then I had gone all year in a 50 by itself (after you subtract .5 for touching with your feet as opposed to your hand.) Anyhow, on the final length, I paid the price. My arms turned to tungsten and it was hard to finish.
I still got my best time of the year, but not by that much. I think the suit suckered me to swim a different race from what works best for me.
The next day, I kept this in mind for the 200, paced much better, and dropped quite a bit of time off my season's previous best.
