I have had a cold for the past 6 days and for the last two I've found a combination of drugs that have made it tolerable enough to let me swim. I take Nyquil (generic kind) an hour before bedtime and Musinex D just before I leave for work. At approximately 5pm, I take a 1/2 dose of the Musinex D. I feel good enough to practice for a little while (45 min).
If you have things that work for you please pass them along. Thanks, Coach T.

I love Mucinex (plain, not D) - if I take it continuously from the first sign, I can avoid a sinus infection. Drink a lot of water for it to work well. For symptoms, I like Dayquil. My doc also has be on Advair regularly to avoid bronchitis, which has been a problem for me this year.
Good luck. Hope you feel better soon!

Stillwater, your jellyfish reference was the most disgusting floater description I've come across since Brooklyn whitefish.
.
i've always known them as coney island whitefish often found in the company of playtex plastic minnows.

get a neti pot and you probably won't have to deal with one in the first place!
Second this. I love my neti pot. It's weird, but works.

Why not just use a Waterpik? :lmao:
If you have a cold that doesn't go away after say a week, it could be something more, and you should probably see a doctor. Some say I may be a wimp, but thankfully I did see a doctor yesterday, posted a full report on my blog: forums.usms.org/blog.php
I have to agree with Ahmed here. The concept of frequent hand washing, plus never touching your mouth, nose, or eyes with your hands, is almost impossible to adhere to.
I suppose the handwashing part is conceivable, especially if you have OCD goading you, but the avoiding mucous membranes part is not, this according to studies of surgeons in the operating room who, despite every possible motive to remain pure, nevertheless have virtually no success long term keeping their hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth...

I agree with you. Even with washing my hands an inordinate number of times per day, I still managed to pick up some nastiness during my vacation
Is washing one's hands really effective?
Think of the actions:
1- I turn the water ON with my dirty hands, thus depositing germs on the tap/faucet
2- I scrub my hands to the point that my total weight goes down a couple of lbs, then
3- I pick up the germs I had previously deposited, as I turn the water OFF
Multiply that by the number of people who have touched the faucet.
