If you wear silicone swim cap, the hair doesn't get that much chlorine, does it?
  • i used to use a clarifying shampoo but if you color your hair, it strips the color and makes it brittle. i now use a shampoo for dry hair and my hair is soft. for the face, i put on a serum after i get out. any of them from expensive brands to garnier . i use clarins .

I am back in the pool after being out for 20 years (time went by very fast!). I'm just feeling my way through some trial and error. The bottom line is everyone's hair is different. Mine is red and used to have quite the chlorine sheen to my hair (and I swum without a cap as my hair was short in those days). I am still experimenting but here is my current hair routine. My hair is long and wavy. In the evening: Wash hair with conditioner only. Don't rinse out completely. Add Neutrogena Triple Moisture Leave in Conditioner AM: I head to the pool and put on my cap. I do tend to get a lot of water under my head because I need to order a cap for long hair. So it comes off a lot. Anyway, my leave in conditioner is already in so I am protected there. After workout: I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three (removes chlorine) and condition and put more leave in conditioner. This seems to be working fine. I'm really battling the dryness factor though. Might give the Pert and Infusium routine a shot.

There is no choice. Use Pert 2 when you wash your hair, Infusium rinse pick the choice for moisturize (as needed, people with longer hair need to do it more frequently, and finally leave in Infusium leave-in spray that is for moisturizing. "I say this over and over. Yet you never listen (to quote my fahter)" I am very serious about this. Most people who cut my hair do not even realize i swim. This is truly a winning choice. You will be amazed. Leave the Infumsium leave in spray when you swim. it doesn't do any harm to the water and it ensures that the chlorine cannot bond with the dead hair cells. Everyone please go out anf get these three producy got your hair. You will be amazed.
  • I have very dark, long, brunette hair, so the chlorine green has never been a problem for me. I have very oily hair too, so the pool water has just made my hair closer to normal. My hairdresser says it's in good shape. I use a cap for long hair, and I usually just wash with Sauve clarifier, rinse, then suds again with my regular shampoo, and condition just the ends.
  • Try California Baby Swimmer's Defense www.californiababy.com/hair-body.html smells a bit like citronella and doesn't lather much, but it seems to work pretty well - takes the filmy feeling off your hair. Growing up I also used Nexxus Therappe shampoo and Humectress Conditioner and they worked quite well, too.

I dont use conditioner or special shampoos. My hair stays about 95 % dry . I wear a swim band and a bubble strap cap. If I get it on just right its a perfect seal even backstrokeing. It does save me money and time. www.geocities.com/.../swimband.html

Pert 2..what is that... I have started to wear a swim cap as NOTHING has been getting the cholorine out...I have spent LOTS of money on different shampoos, etc...even tried the Aveda Hair Detox...I wet my hair to comb it and the chorine smell just PERMIATED from my head....yesterday I used a swim cap and washed with Malibu C and conditioned with UltraSwim..no chlorine smell today. It has BLEACHED MY HAIR BLONDE...I mean almost GRAY BLONDE....I have to do something.
  • At a suggestion, I tried PAUL MITCHELL NUMBER 3, and it seems to work best for me. A conditioner is always needed after a clarifying shampoo. As for green hair, chlorine does not cause it. Green hair comes from copper that is leached out of the pool's plumbing and bonds itself to human hair; it only happens when there is an improper balance in the water's chemicals. :eeew:
